As we conclude this 30th anniversary of Black History Month in Canada, let us remember — we are not there yet. The work continues.
Let us move forward with renewed commitment: to learning, to justice, and to building communities, institutions, and a country where every contribution is valued, every voice is heard, and opportunity is not limited by race.
Black history is Canadian history — in February and beyond.

Today starts the 30th Black History Month, an opportunity to honour the culture, resilience, and achievements of Black Canadians. This milestone exists thanks to trailblazer & mentor @JeanAugustine07, whose 1995 motion led Parliament to recognize February as Black History Month.

Judy McKeown was a real one. Always there with facts or wholesome joy and truly a beautiful educator and person.
I'll never forget our silly apple or dog vs cats wars, and I'll never forget how much you gave to ensure all kids are seen and heard at schools.
Rest in Power sis.
On June 6, 2025, a soul of great beauty left this treacherous earth. Judith McKeown @mzmckeown was a proud Black woman, an educator, a brilliant thought leader, a fearless truthteller, a community organizer, a champion of equity and human rights for all people. #judymckeown
