As someone living in Cambodia, yesterday’s border clash didn’t feel far away.

People died—Thai civilians, including children—after Cambodian rocket fire reportedly struck border villages. That’s tragic and unacceptable. But it didn’t happen in a vacuum. Thai forces reportedly provoked the shooting, on land already ruled by international courts to belong to Cambodia.

None of this should be normal!

Let’s not cheer from the sidelines like it’s some kind of boxing match. Thai and Cambodian voices alike are posting online like they’re rooting for a team—while real families are burying their dead!

Put the weapons down. Talk. Before more lives are lost for absolutely nothing.

1) This is an armed conflict between a much more powerful military against a smaller military trying to defend itself. 🇹🇭 use of F-16s shows that imbalance.

🇰🇭 has exercised restraints since the start of the conflict in May when 🇹🇭 killed a 🇰🇭 soldier.
