It's #Abridge, around 1905. It shows a Riggs Retreat on the right, with Goulds Cottages on the left. This was one of several โretreatsโ where visitors who were coming to Epping Forest could enjoy tea and refreshments.

๐ We are so lucky to have the #EppingForest District Museum in #WalthamAbbey. Thank you to the team for giving me a tour including the new permanent display on Sir Winston Churchill. He led from the front defending freedom & democracy while serving as MP for #Epping.

We love this wintery watercolour by Walter Spradbery showing a Narnia-esque landscape with trees and gardens draped in snow. The only thing thatโs missing is a hot chocolate with a few marshmallows!
๐Seasons Greetings to our supporters!๐
Weโre looking forward to sharing more of our amazing collections and stories with you in 2025.
Here's a festive scene of 39 - 41 Sun Street (home to our museum) by Epping artist Eric Dawson (1918-2008).

๐Who remembers Austin Reed? ๐
This lovely advert from the early 1960s offers shoppers some great gift ideas for the gents. Founded in 1900, Austin Reed was very much part of High Streets for over 100 years. It even had stores on three ocean liners!

This beautiful headdress was recently donated to the museum. It was worn by Marion Faulkner on her wedding day to Philip Pennell. They lived in #WalthamAbbey for over 60 years.
