ST - Micah Mbick (Loan)
Mbick is the perfect profile to replace either Tolaj or Pepple if they were to leave. He had an excellent loan at Colchester before it was cut short of injury. He has an abundance of pace and power and at 19 can hold off seasoned pros with ease with his strength. He scored 9 times in 25 games for #ColU and averaged 0.43 goals per 90. I believe he has a better physical presence and better technical ability than Pepple so that shows how good of a signing I think he can be. Mbick also earned international recognition for his form at Colchester, where he got called to the England u20s squad.
How attainable is Mbick?
Charlton rejected a bid for Mbick for around £3.5m from Brighton so a loan deal suits all parties and from there depending on which division Argyle are in for 27/28 and there finances could see a permanent move on the table but I feel this is unlikely. The other question is can Mbick go in and start for Charlton in the Championship? Yes he could but for his development I feel like a loan move to League One is good progression and will do him the world of good.
5 transfers for ✍️ - Plymouth Argyle
The 5 positions I have identified that need strengthening are Goalkeeper, Centre Back, Left Back, Centre Mid and Striker.
This is set to be a turbulent summer for Argyle with bids for Lorent Tolaj and Bim Pepple inevitable, it will be interesting to see if one of them go, both go and how they will replace them. There has been of anger online from Plymouth fans with their Women teams manager and whole squad leaving, and redundancies being made throughout the club due to ‘financial reasons’. #Argyle #PAFC
CM - Gavin Kilkenny (fee)
Plymouth certainly had an availability problem in the centre of the park last season with Ibrahim having time out on the sidelines along with Joe Ralls being injury prone and Herbie Kane going back to Huddersfield they need a player to come in who has good availability and Kilkenny certainly has that playing 97 games in the last two seasons. He will offer Plymouth tons of energy in midfield and is an excellent ball player, passing through the thirds with quaility. Argyle have multiple talented attacking players and one thing Kilkenny does that will suit them is simply picking loose ball up (which is backed up by having 7.30 recoveries per 90) and progressing it on to more creative and flashy players. GV averaged 64 touches per 90 which implies he is heavily involved in play and he also averaged 37 successful passes per 90.
The question is, how much would it take for Swindon to lose such a key asset?
With Kilkenny signing a new deal until 2028 in Jan I believe a fee within the 250-350k mark would be enough to agree a deal with Swindon. With Kilkenny coming into his prime years at 26, I think he has the quality to step up and push on in his career.
5 transfers for ✍️ - Tranmere Rovers
The five positions I have identified that need strengthening are Centre Back, Right Wing Back, Centre Mid, Attacking Mid and Striker.
This one will be interesting as Tranmere have 13 contracted players going into next season and a new manager in Darrell Clarke who will feel like he has something to prove to himself and everyone about his ability to manage a successful team in League Two. With a complicated situation with Rovers’ owner, Mark Palios, it is unlikely there will be investment in terms of transfer fee’s paid so we will be looking at free transfers and loan deals. #SWA
Striker - Courtney Baker-Richardson (free)
CBR is an experienced League two striker who would strive with 2 up front and no doubt with service he would score goals. His hold up play is good and Darrell Clarke likes to have a striker playing who can do selfless work for the team. For the past 2 seasons CBR has been with Newport and he hasn’t had the best couple of seasons scoring 8 times in 75 games. I believe in the right system he can score 10 goals and will offer work for the team which will make this a good signing.
AM - Nick Haughton (fee)
Haughton hasn’t had the chances he needed at FGR to perform to the levels he should. He has been quality in the level below for years and even at 31 deserves a chance in the EFL. He is a bagsman from midfield which don’t come by often, he is a hard worker and is very tricky on the ball, having excellent ball control and a great ability to carry the ball up the pitch + getting out of tight areas.
If you were to isolate his season with FGR he wouldn’t deserve a move to League Two but his work at AFC Fylde was simply outstanding. He is a club legend there and scored 110 goals from midfield. Unsure on his contract length but confident it wouldn’t take much for Tranmere to secure his services, so I can see this being a good fit and smart business.
