@KatesOlivia Have thought a lot about this. Still not sure. Will not taking a vaccine mean that someone in an LMIC has access to the one I'm not taking?
‘There is always light.
Only if we are brave enough to see it.
There is always light.
Only if we are brave enough to be it.’

Our paper regarding predictive models of adverse outcomes in neutropenic fever is finally out! Big thanks to the team from @UVA_ID and UVA Systems Engineering for making it happen. Shout out to modeling wizard @MMawulolo and mentors Drs. Chris Moore and Laura Barnes.
Congrats to recent UVA ID fellow & now @fredhutch@FredHutchGO post-doc @EGulleen & her UVA mentor, Dr. Chris Moore, on their paper describing predictive models of adverse outcomes in neutropenic patients: https://t.co/lji7r0E4Ip @CritCareExplore@uvahealthnews
These are the legacies of colonialism and white privilege. This is the system working the way it was designed. This is system I benefited from when I got the vaccine before my front-line colleagues around the globe. This is the reality of #globalhealth.
A bittersweet bright spot in an awful week. On Tuesday, I was privileged to receive the COVID #vaccine. As I got the shot, I thought of my Ugandan colleagues who are front-line caring for COVID patients. My colleagues show up in person every day.
Meanwhile, a group of terrorists egged on by the president himself attempted to overturn a free and fair election. They received better treatment than those who protested for racial justice. They received more benefit of the doubt than Black and Brown citizens receive daily.

@transscribe Became a more active supporter when I started working in healthcare clinics where excellent, gender-affirming care was provided. Watching people become happier and healthier as they were supported in their gender identities was the light-bulb moment.

Most of the focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is on drug overuse and low adherence to treatment. Find out what else is driving resistance. #TropMed19 https://t.co/NUAUUWjKUz
Dr. Paul Newton talking about impact of poor quality drugs on AMR @ASTMH. Shockingly data-free zone! No research could be identified for inclusion in most recent review paper. #ASTMH19#IDTwitter
