Excited for this year’s interview cycle and meeting all of the new applicants!! FYI, @MCG_Surgery will be planning a few dates for in-person interviews!! We are excited to have you see our institution in person and make sure MCG is your new home for the next 5 years! 😃
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@LilyOwei@SarahLandau10 A5: I also made my sleep environment as nice as possible because it's important to optimize rest time. Weighted blanket ✅ Sunrise alarm clock ✅ Device that cools my bed because my cat is too cuddly ✅ #AWSChat
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@LilyOwei@SarahLandau10 A5: It's honestly hard to keep a true routine because my schedule is drastically different each month. But I still go to the climbing gym and play in an ultimate summer league. I got a Peloton last year which is a game changer for at home workouts #AWSChat
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@LilyOwei@SarahLandau10 A4: Our junior didactics curriculum is based on SCORE, so we work through this week in score as a group. Additionally, a lot of our residents choose to invest in TrueLearn because the qbank feels closer to Uworld/the actual test #AWSChat
@WomenSurgeons@kc140605@LilyOwei@SarahLandau10 A4: My program pays for ABSITE Quest, a spaced repetition question bank that gives you 5-10 daily questions, as well as SCORE. Keeping up with questions daily helps spread the burden of studying and builds your knowledge base all year #AWSChat#DearIntern
@WomenSurgeons You gain the trust of your seniors as you complete the tasks you’re assigned and anticipate the needs of the team. Your efforts will be recognized by your seniors and attendings #AWSchat
@WomenSurgeons#AWSchat A3: One of the key principles of intern year is gaining trust. Each task you complete you are gaining the trust of those around you. Autonomy follows the trust that you establish
@WomenSurgeons You gain trust from your attendings in the operating room with you show proficiency in the skills you’re asked to demonstrate. This trust allows you to progress in the OR and take on more complex skills. #AWSchat
@WomenSurgeons#AWSchat A2: And it's ok (and expected) that you won't know the answer to every question. You can be transparent by letting your patients know that you will discuss with the team and get back to them. Just make sure you follow through
@WomenSurgeons#AWSchat A2: Take time to slow down when talking to patients and families. It's easy to feel rushed because your job is hectic but showing with your body language that these conversations matter is valuable for the care you provide
@WomenSurgeons#AWSchat A2: Also don't feel like you have to flex your medical knowledge. There's a balance in demonstrating competence/gaining respect as a new doctor while also ensuring your patients can understand you
@WomenSurgeons A1: Start with the basics. Make sure you have everyone's cell phone number (on your team and your entire coresident cohort) at the beginning of the year/rotation so you're not stuck in an emergency without the right contact information
