@DrPlantel, with the growing prevalence of healthism and health misinformation, it seems we are internalizing health issues and sold treatments now more than ever.
In your opinion, is there a way digital technology could be used for good in the wake of healthism?
Student conditions have changed in the past decades. Teachers are seeing depression and anxiety rates worsen. We need to find a solution to this problem.

This image represents the issue of the opressive classroom structure that does not support the NORMAL human behaviours we see in kids like movement, fidgeting, desire for colour, excitement, collaboration, and freely speaking in the class
Healthism assumes health issues solely to the individual. Health becomes an individual responsibility and obligation, which can result in a persons value in society being equated to their health. Good health = good person; bad health = bad person. #EM203Robin#EM203Problem
@3dancingfeet do you believe healthism to be a rising trend due to the increased use of social media (and the accompanying misinformation)? Or has it always been around?
Healthism affects how people perceive health. This image from Heather Bray (2024) displays that many people fail to acknowledge uncontrollable factors when thinking about health. Leading to shame and stigma around health/health issues. https://t.co/OoaKNHzqX9
Healthism is a societal belief that frames health as an individual problem. It fails to address other systemic factors that affect health.
If health is an individual responsibility, how can we ever build healthy communities? 🌎❤️🩹

It's 2026, and as of yet, no country has achieved gender equality.
At the current rate of progress, it could take hundreds of years for women and girls to have the same rights and protections as men.
Sunday is International Women’s Day.

@EM203NChay great mind map about the economy! One thing that I noticed is maybe missing is how health is affected by the economy. Meaning, adequate care can sometimes be limited by income which is impacted by the economy.
@CharlotteGodd2 Hi Charlotte, you make a great point! I agree it has been interesting to learn how technology can be used as a resource and specifically used for learning and education.
@EM203akwong Hi Amber, I love your reflection! I appreciate how the course content is so relevant and I especially liked the lesson about connectionism. I also have enjoyed the course so far and I'm looking forward to the rest of the content!
@EM203MylesP Hi Myles, I also enjoyed creating a cartoon for our introduction, I found it was a great practical example of how technology can be used for learning - especially in an online course!
@EM203LHopman Hi Lyla, I also find the benefits and costs of technology in learning interesting. I am intrigued how education and curriculums (especially for young learners) will evolve to further include technology!
@EM203JCarvalho I agree! understanding how technology has impacted learning has been interesting! It's great how that has related to your other course experiences.
