I am going to be on several different working groups regarding #covid recovery planning in healthcare. Although my specialty is Internal Medicine, I will also be advocating for significant support for mental health--the needs in this area are huge right now.
https://t.co/61lCIAzA3L Canada's universal healthcare system doesn't provide adequate access to some of the most basic mental health supports, since mental health assistance is one of the most underfunded services in the system #EM203Research
That's a wrap on #TorontoVaccineDay!
Tally of doses administered: 26,771
Big thank you to everyone on #TeamToronto for bringing today together and the 26,771 people who came out to get their shot.
Connecting to your idea of mental health in education, I think that students may sometimes also feel like a number rather than a person, which makes it difficult to succeed, more one-on-one teaching and check-ins are often lacking! @EM203jnegri#EM203problems
@stephenham_@EM203DShang I agree with both of you. EM203 has allowed me to learn new skills by actually doing the task hands on. I learned how to do the Tango 💃
@EM203KTownshend mental health awareness and support has been rising in recent years, but funding and access to professional help and treatment is still severely lacking, with 2.3mil Canadians reporting unmet mental healthcare needs as of 2020 #EM203problems
@EM203_CMurray top causes of death in the US are heart disease, cancer, and now covid; when polled back in 2015, most people thought the most urgent health concerns were obesity (perhaps due to impaired quality of life?) and cancer #EM203problems
@EM203CDeng rising carbon emissions from industrial processes and transportation industries are amongst top contributers to the global warming and climate change crisis #EM203problems
@EM203JBUGI I liked the thoery of connectivism too and it made me wonder how much more effective education is nowadays, since technology makes it so much easier to form social networks. I wonder how relevant the theory would have been in the days before the internet!
@hayleyalyssaa Hi Hayley, I'm excited to continue learning in this course as well! I'm looking forward to lesson 7 (Access to Information: Just Google It!) because I'm interested in seeing how the vast amounts of data that's available can be optimized and used in education.
@EM203NealG What tools do you typically use when learning? I personally find text and graphics to be the most effective for me, but I think that the multi-modal approach is the best because it combines traditional learning methods with more interactive ones.
@Em203JKula What were your thoughts on the constructivism learning theory? I personally enjoy collaborative and exploratory learning methods; however, I think that for some subjects that require memorization, I learn best using more individual and traditional methods!
@EM203MAuerbach Hi Maia, I found the activity on multitasking really interesting and I learned that I work better when I'm focused compared to when I'm multitasking. What would you say your learning style is and do you like multitasking?
I enjoyed learning about the 3Ms and trying a new task this week! I tend to learn and figure things out best by myself and I continued this approach this week by learning how to programmatically solve a difficult sudoku. It turned out to be a pretty useful skill! 🧠😀#EM203Robin
