Exams are putting too much pressure on young people.
This quote is from our Activist Chloe and we know she is not alone.
More than three-quarters of teachers reported mental health issues related to exam anxiety in their students during the last school year.
“Exams are outdated memory tests that don’t reflect true intelligence, especially for anyone who isn’t neurotypical, has mental health issues or lives with additional needs,” Chloe told us.
“No child going through the chaos of adolescence should face the pressure of securing their future by answering questions for one hour in a cold sports hall.”
It’s time to change how schools do exams.
Just a few weeks into EM203, and I’ve already gained so much insight. One of my favourite topics so far has been learning in the digital age—especially exploring learning theories and how constructivism can be applied in the classroom. Looking forward to what’s next! #EM203Robin
@EM203QWoodlock Great point. I agree that this is a very great online course, I feel that I have been more engaged with these weekly X challenges. I also agree with your point about how it improves digital literacy as a whole.
@MatthewEM203 Great observation Matthew. I think it is really interesting to learn about how youth are now learning in the digital world. I think this course has shown us that technology in education is more positive than we are led to believe!
@em203jc I agree. I think we were all under the impression that multi-tasking was easy. For me, it is something that I do all the time. Yet, this lesson proved to me that I should be doing one thing at a time! Great observation.
@totog_EM203 I completely agree. It was interesting to learn about the different theories and how they are applied in classroom. It made me think about how each student learns differently and how technology comes into play.
I’ve really enjoyed EM203 so far! As a non-education major, I’ve gained insight into how technology supports learning and concepts like cognitivism and the 3 M’s. I look forward to learning more in this course! #EM203Robin
