( katsuki certainly did *not expect that answer.
from all the different reasons eijiro could have given him, his death was not one that he had ever considered to be a possibility. sure, many people had been affected by it—duh, all his friends and teachers saw it happening—but
( eijiro exhales, alcohol thick on his breath. there were so many things he could say; the whole long descent into darkness he'd confessed to for the first time just a few days ago. his guilt. the vices. the sick ways he'd coped.
even his fucking convoluted moral code.
he’d never expect it to cause..this. )
—— ..my…y-you-…eijiro—
( he had to take a moment. a small breath, gather his thoughts, keep himself together. because *that, right there, just made his chest ache. and not in a “my heart is giving me bullshit” way. )
—— ..you’re—
but the answer came down to one thing. not even several hundred thousand.
one.
man. )
if all for one had been killed instead of imprisoned . . ( he breathes, ruby locked with scarlet. ) . . you would never have died.
—— Nah. Not that either. No negative feelings, honestly..
( he places his glass down again, staring at it for a bit longer before he looks up at kirishima. there’s not a single trace of a lie in his eyes, he’s..surprisingly calm about all this. )
—— Can I just ask why? Not—
disappointed?
( that's the next guess, a trace of disbelief creeping into his voice. this is possibly even more terrifying than all the conversations about this he'd had previously. voice is more hushed when he talks again, the music nearly drowning him out. )
—not a loud, exaggerated laugh. just something small, yet something that sounded so..sincere. )
—— Nah…’m not mad..at all.
( he shrugs, taking a sip of his drink. )
—— Mad?
( he pretends to think about it. the bartender places a glass in front of him and katsuki thanks him with a nod. he picks up the glass and stares at the ice cubes as they float, for a little while he doesn’t say anything.. )
( ..until he lets out a laugh. it’s—
nah. just a shit day into a shit week into a shit month into a shit year into a shit career. y'got nothing to do with it.
( ah but that pout. it eases his tension somewhat, and causes him to loosen up more than alcohol already had. )
yer mad about blood riot too, yeah?
... mmn.
perhaps i was a really bad person in my past lives for things to continue to happen to me.
-he sighs, nuzzling katsuki gently. he just.. wants some peace. happiness.-
.. when do i get to be happy?
i know. i know.
-he shrugs a little, eyes downcast.-
.. it just hurts. i've spoken to someone in a similar situation, said all i could say.. and it changed nothing, i am still angry. still hurt. still upset.
—— Hello to you too, geez.
( he rolls his eyes, turning to the bartender and asking for a drink for himself. as surprising as that’d sound, katsuki wasn’t there to fight or argue, he just..wanted to talk. maybe catch up. or whatever. )
—— If I had come here all loud and—
( in all honesty, everything the man katsuki leans in front of had been saying for the last fucking * hour had gone in one ear and right out the other. eijiro * knows the dude is trying to pick him up, but even at his lowest the redhead would never cheat.
we don’t have to talk about it here. or now. or today. I’m just saying this so you know you have someone you can talk to *if you ever want to.
( he offers him a small smile. )
it already weighs me down.
i know you want to help, i do..
but the details are.. not good.
knowing them creates accomplices and discussing any of it out here? that will.. just make it worse. anyone could hear. no. i cannot discuss it. —
we’ve endured way too much. ‘sides, I won’t die just because I helped you.
( he shakes his head. )
you don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to. but I do hope you know you don’t have to bottle everything up. I’m offering to help because I care and because I don’t—
.. no. i can't do that to you. you have endured enough, katsuki.
i'll manage.
talking about it will only make me angrier.
-still, he leans into him a bit too.-
—considering whether to approach him or not for the past half hour. )
( in the end..he got up and approached the other man, leaning beside him with a tilt of his head. )
—— You look bored.
( he didn’t give much of a fuck about interrupting the conversation, honestly. )
( katsuki knew he probably shouldn’t be there. he should have finished his patrol, gathered his stuff and then went immediately back home. but he had stopped at a random dive bar to get something to eat (and maybe have some alcohol), saw eijiro from where he sat and had been—
( sat at a dive bar, on his fifth drink. staring blankly at a neon sign while some guy chatters his ear off about a tabletop game. eijiro nods every now and then and murmurs an ' uh huh. yeah. ' )
