Another tidbit from @RCPmuseum MS 504 is the surprise knowledge of gout as an STD-- or perhaps more likely a major humoral constitution shift with life circumstances... Apparently "One never had the Gout, untill he hath known woman carnally. Hippocrates." #earlymodern#histmed
Still transcribing left for enthusiasts, esp w/ the juicy @RCPmuseum MS 504. The hand initially looks intimidating, but you get used to it quickly. Lots on beauty incl #animalhist. https://t.co/3wYKTtVICJ
@Gillviola @earlymodernemma@mazinggrace_@ExploreWellcome There are still pages to transcribe and loads of twitter friends here to discuss mysteries or fun bits you find, even if the zoom room is closed. But we will have another one next year--it has typically, though not always, been in November.
Please apply! CSHM and @AMSHealthcare offer four Hannah studentships for projects in the history of medicine. Deadline 9 Feb 2024. https://t.co/ReOuWjkA0Q
Call for Papers: now invited for 'History and #Archives in Practice, 2024' - our annual conference for historians & archivists, with @ihr_history and @UkNatArcRes: https://t.co/d2j2uVqGD0
Delighted that #HAP24 will take place @cardiffuni on 6 March 2024 #twitterstorians
I have so far found some interesting refs to apothecaries and linen napkins for @ELouiseAustin, a dog dung powder to be eaten, use of wood on wch swine have rubbed themselves, and some animal blood skin applications for freckles... #histmed
@Howard59972346 Yes, that is the literal name-- but it was trying to figure out which plant it refers to in a list of ingredients and the OED did not say. Fortunately @GCoatalen and @_drsang have come to the rescue with plant refs!
Any ideas what the last word on the first line might be? Looks maybe like scalability, but OED offers no obvious matches. It involves taking juice of broom and whatever it is, and adding it to whey and honey. #emroctranscribes#earlymodern#histmed

Having fun with the annual trascribathon. Lucked out in @ExploreWellcome 4054 with classics like the Countess of Kent's pills and a water for the Stone. @RCPmuseum MS 504 isn't quite as hard to read as it first looks (phew) and I'm in the middle of lots of horse remedies.
