I am heartbroken by the tragic fire at Utumishi Girls’ Academy that has taken the lives of 16 young girls and left many others injured.

I join the nation in mourning these children whose lives were cut short so painfully and too soon. To the parents, families, teachers, and fellow students, may God grant you strength, comfort, and peace in this difficult time. May the Lord receive the souls of the departed into His eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon them.

As we pray for the injured to heal quickly, we must also confront hard questions about the safety of our children in schools. These repeated tragedies cannot continue to happen while recommendations from past incidents remain unfulfilled.

We owe these children more than grief after disaster. We owe them safe schools, responsible leadership, and urgent action.
I the nation in calling for a thorough and transparent investigation into this incident and full accountability wherever negligence is found.

May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Nearly half of Kenya’s projected FY 2026/2027 budget will go to debt servicing instead of development.

Out of the Ksh 4.82 trillion budget, taxpayers will pay approximately Ksh 2.3 trillion toward debt obligations, including Ksh 1.3 trillion consumed purely by loan interest payments before meaningful development spending even begins.

Under Kenyan law, debt repayment is a “first charge” on national revenue. Creditors are paid first, before hospitals, schools, counties, agriculture, or public services.

At the same time, Kenya continues borrowing heavily to repay maturing loans and cover budget deficits. The public debt has now risen to approximately Ksh 12.4 trillion, while ordinary citizens continue facing unemployment, high taxation, failing services, and rising economic hardship.

Kenyans must ask:
Who borrowed this money?
Were all these loans borrowed procedurally as per the constitution?
Who benefited?
Why should citizens repay debts arising from corruption, secrecy, inflated contracts, and mismanagement?

An odious debt is not a people’s debt. It is a regime debt.

This constitutional and economic battle continues in court.

The matter comes up on 25th June 2026 at the Milimani Law Courts.

The @LawSocietyofKe has moved to the Supreme Court to challenge the surveillance provisions of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018 and I want every Kenyan to understand why this matters.

In March 2026, the Court of Appeal struck down Sections 22 and 23 of the Act. These are the provisions that criminalised publishing false or misleading information online. The court rightly described them as akin to unguided missiles likely to net innocent citizens. That was a necessary and welcome outcome.

However, the court upheld Sections 48–53, which permit the State to intercept your emails, voice calls and digital communications for up to 9 months, compel service providers to hand over your subscriber data and search any person present on premises during a data-related warrant all with what we believe is insufficient judicial oversight.

LSK, together with @BAKE_Kenya, @Article19EA, and @KUJKenya, has now petitioned the Supreme Court to determine whether these provisions meet the threshold set by Articles 31 and 33 of our Constitution which codifies the right to privacy and the right to free expression. The Supreme Court has certified the application as urgent.

On this day, 18 years ago, on 12 May 2008, I published my first article in the @NationAfrica challenging the injustice of odious debt.

I argued then, as I do now, that debts incurred against the interests of the people cannot morally or legally be imposed on generations that never consented to them.

Africa must stop begging for relief from debts designed to enrich a few and impoverish millions. We must audit, question, repudiate, and prosecute where necessary.

Odious debt is not development. It is economic capture. The struggle continues.

Pursuant to Standing Order 53(1), I have officially sought a Statement from the @Senate_KE Standing Committee on Finance and Budget regarding the grave illegalities surrounding the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit toll road project. This corridor is a vital artery for our national economy and regional trade, yet it is being shrouded in suspicious maneuvers. 
Recent revelations suggest the original Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract; initially a single concession, was split between two foreign contractors specifically to avoid external scrutiny.
We are demanding full transparency on: 
• Legal Compliance: Whether this restructuring complies with the Constitution, the PPP Act, and the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act. 
• Shadow Approvals: Evidence of minutes or resolutions from the PPP Committee authorizing the splitting of the contract and its financial models. 
• Environmental Impact: Whether fresh approvals were obtained following these major variations. 
• The Burden on Citizens: Full disclosure of proposed toll rates, adjustment mechanisms, and the total duration of the concession. 
We will not allow public infrastructure to be traded away in backroom deals that bypass the law. Transparency and value for money are non-negotiable.  #ReKe

I was born and raised in Korogocho a place that teaches you about injustice and inequality long before you even understand what those words mean. My activism journey began there over four years ago, when I came online to seek help fixing the sewage mess in my community. You incredible people showed up, and together we made it happen. That moment changed everything for me.

I’ve always felt that I can’t talk about influence or impact if I’m not doing my part to uplift the very place that shaped me. A few months ago, I learned about a situation that broke my heart. A young boy in primary school had stopped attending classes for months because he couldn’t afford school fees. His mother is paralyzed and bedridden, and with his sisters still very young, he’s been struggling to hold their little world together. There are so many children in similar situations—bright, eager minds being dimmed by poverty. I want to help as many of them as possible, and I know together we can. For as little as KSh 3,000–4,000 per term, you can sponsor a child’s education. That’s all it takes to give a child the dignity and hope that comes with learning.
