Appreciate today's update! The upward trend in international prices is encouraging—hopefully, we see this positive momentum filter down to further benefit local farm gate prices soon. #ENISymposium2026
Coffee price update for Monday the 5th of October, 2026:
Greetings Coffee value chain players in Uganda. Here is a summary from the Coffee Market Analysis Report for today.
The highlight: Global coffee prices close higher for both Robusta and Arabica Coffee. Local farm gate remain stable.
1. International Market Highlights
⚫️ Robusta (As per LIFFE pricing)
Robusta futures closed higher on Friday. Experts note that commodity funds hold an excessive number of "short" positions (bets that the price will fall), which could trigger a "short-covering rally" that could drive prices even higher.
The November 2026 contract closed at $3,469 per tonne (up by $21) while the January 2027 contract closed at $3,448 per tonne (up by $45).
⚫️ Arabica Coffee (As per New York ICE pricing) Arabica prices went up pushed mainly by adjustments in the U.S. Dollar that encouraged traders to buy back their positions (short covering). Prices are also being pushed up by market worries presented by an El Niño weather pattern that is predicted to damage Brazil’s upcoming coffee crop.
The December 2026 contract closed at 288.75 US cents per lb (up 0.50 cents), which equals US$ 6.37 (About UGX 25,361 per kilogram)
The March 2027 contract closed at 280.50 US cents per lb (up by 0.90 cents), which equals US$ 6.18 (About UGX 24,637 UGX per kilogram).
📢 Prices for Robusta and Arabica are based on LIFFE and ICE figures, respectively.
LIFFE stands for the London International Financial Futures and Options Exchange. It is the historical London-based exchange (now part of Intercontinental Exchange) where Robusta coffee futures are primarily traded and benchmarked.
ICE stands for the Intercontinental Exchange. It is the major global exchange network that operates the New York trading platform where Arabica coffee futures are primarily priced and traded.
2. Local Farmgate Prices
Here are the ranges for the local farm gate prices (in UGX per kilogram)
❇️ Arabica Parchment: 15,000 – 16,000
❇️ Drugar Coffee: 14,500 – 15,000
❇️ FAQ: 12,000 – 13,000
❇️ Kiboko: 5,000 – 6,000
Coffee price analysis is undertaken through the MAAIF Department of Coffee Production and Development in collaboration with partner institutions and market-based companies.

Proud to see Uganda leading the conversation on sustainability and quality at the 17th SCTA Forum! Essential steps for taking our coffee to the next level. 👏☕️ #EniSymposium2026
Uganda Showcases Coffee Transformation, Traceability and Sustainability at Global Coffee Forum in Switzerland.
Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to building a globally competitive coffee sector through increased production, improved quality, enhanced traceability, sustainability, value addition and stronger access to international markets during its inaugural participation in the 17th Swiss Coffee Trade Association (SCTA) Forum and Dinner in Montreux, Switzerland.
Led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@UgandaMFA) and Uganda's Permanent Mission in Geneva, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and Private Sector actors in the Uganda Coffee Sector were welcomed to the Association.
The Ugandan delegation was led by Hon. Desire Muhooza the Minister of State for Agriculture (@DESIREtheFARMER) , MAAIF Permanent Secretary Rtd. Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama (@PS_MAAIF) and Mr. Vincent Bagiire Waiswa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs (@Tybisa).
Uganda's participation, under the theme "Brewing Trust: Traceability, Sustainability and Value Addition in Uganda's Coffee Journey," provided a unique opportunity to present the country's coffee transformation story to some of the world's leading coffee traders, investors and industry stakeholders.
Opening Uganda's engagement, Hon. Desire Muhooza emphasized that coffee remains central to Uganda's economic transformation and rural livelihoods.
"Coffee is not simply a crop for Uganda. It is deeply embedded in our economy, our history, our culture and the livelihoods of millions of households. It represents a national commitment and a long-term ambition to produce more, produce better and share Uganda's coffee excellence with the world," said Hon. Muhooza.
The Minister highlighted Uganda's remarkable progress over the past decade, with coffee exports increasing from approximately 3.6 million bags in 2017 to more than 8.3 million bags in 2025.
"This transformation is not merely a story of increased volumes. It reflects Uganda's emergence as a dependable and significant coffee origin in the international market, driven by deliberate government investments in farmer support, productivity improvement, quality enhancement and market development,"- Hon. @DESIREtheFARMER.
