Congratulations to Dr. Sujan Shresta @ljiresearch on new funding from @NIAIDNews! Flaviviruses and alphaviruses are spreading — and this #vaccine research is critical
It was an honor to be recognized w/the 2023 Pantheon Award - I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the life sciences and inspire future innovators. As I pass the torch, I encourage you to nominate the next trailblazers here: https://t.co/eEaBExxfsm

Biomedical faculty search committees, what would you rather have, a candidate with a K99/R00 or a candidate with a career award from the Burroughs Wellcome Fund? A talented physician scientist here has won both, but must give one up. A good problem to have - but which to give up?
LJI Asst Prof Sam Myers shows how to screen 1000s of post-trans mods to explore biochem pathways and circuits at scale - here, to explore T cell activation. Am beaming with pride at our new recruit and all he is building. @SAMyers_lab@ljiresearch
New from @SAMyers_lab! Combining genome-wide CRISPR–Cas9-mediated base editors with temporally resolved phosphoproteomics enables the functional screening of thousands of post-translational modification sites involved in T cell activation.https://t.co/EtEoofQt8A
We preset an approach to test phosphorylation site function in high throughput. Like phenotypic CRISPR screens but instead of knocking out a gene, we mutate specific codons with base editors so the resultant protein cannot get phosphorylated that site.
Thank you Dr. Wezgryn @rwegrzyn for your comments at the Women’s Health Action Matters Forum. Yes, we can effect the needed changes for Women’s health in #3not30 years. The faculty of @ljiresearch and the nation are behind you, @ARPA_H and @WHAMnow
LJI Center for Cancer Immunotherapy and @UCSanDiego + @UCSDCancer scientists make an important advance toward personalized #immunotherapy for all types of #cancer.

Under joint 🤝 leadership of Drs. Vijayanand & Ganesan, @ljiresearch researchers identified #neoantigens in pediatric #BrainTumors and showed that neoantigen-specific T cell gene signatures are linked to better survival outcomes.

Absolutely beautiful #Ebola cryoET on infected and transfected cells with surprising insights. The most satisfying thing, after 20 years in this field, is how early biochemical puzzles are now fitting together @ReikaWatanabe2@ljiresearch
We are excited to share our first in situ cryo-FIB-ET manuscript from @ljiresearch in biorxiv! We have revealed the nucleocapsid assembly process and presented the atomic model of the intracellular nucleocapsid of the Ebola virus, which causes highly lethal hemorrhagic fever.
In-cell Ebola NC were in infected (deltaVP30 @HalfmannPeter) and transfected cells + other in-cell views of the Ebola nucleocapsid in the acts of assembly and condensation. Inspired and furthered by @williamnwan Tomo start on @USUKFulbright in @BriggsGroup Thank you ever so much.
New on biorxiv, the Ebola virus nucleocapsid has an additional outer layer: NP+genome on the inside; alternating 1-up, 1-down VP24 in the mid; and a newly visualized outer layer of NP held RNA-free by VP35. CryoET @ReikaWatanabe2#teamtomo@ljiresearch https://t.co/mwrioPJFYE
LJI is truly a #compbio powerhouse. Learn how Assistant Professor Tal Einav uses immune cell data to predict how different groups (kids, seniors, men, women) may react to infectious diseases or new vaccines: https://t.co/U82ii4Ldb7 #DataScience#VaccineResearch
LJI Research Assistant Prof. Alba Grifoni (@Alba_Grifoni) investigates how we might harness #Tcells to better fight #SARSCoV2, #Lassa and more.
"You need to consider both T cell and B cell responses in vaccine design."
