News: Seven #Ethiopian armed groups formally announce formation of a coalition

Seven Ethiopian opposition and armed groups have formally announced the formation of a coalition they called the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Coalition for Survival, declaring a joint objective of “removing” the Prosperity Party-led government and establishing an “inclusive transitional government.”

In its statement released today, the newly established ‘Coalition for Survival’ accused the Prosperity Party-led government of presiding over what it described as widespread insecurity, armed conflict, displacement, poverty and the erosion of democratic and human rights.

The coalition comprises the Amhara Fano National Movement, Oromo Liberation Army , Tigray People’s Liberation Front , Ogaden National Liberation Front , Afar National Unity Revolutionary Front, Benishangul Peoples’ Liberation Movement, and Gumuz Peoples’ Democratic Movement.

The Amhara Fano National Movement captured more than 10 Ural trucks loaded with military equipment and ammunition, and destroyed two others, as a newly formed alliance of Ethiopian opposition groups claimed battlefield advances against government troops in the north.

In a statement, the Ethiopian Peoples’ Forces Alliance for Survival reported its fighters engaged federal troops across multiple fronts. The counter-attacks allegedly resulted in casualties, weapon seizures, and the surrender of some government soldiers.

The statement identified the North Wollo and Wag Hemra zones of the Amhara region, alongside parts of the Afar region, as the primary locations of the fighting. The battlefield claims could not be independently verified, and the Ethiopian government has not commented.

Official Statement on the Occasion of the International Day of Peace

Introduction
On this International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples, the Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) addresses the global community with a heavy heart but an unyielding resolve. While the world celebrates this day under the banner of global harmony, millions of Ethiopians, particularly in the Amhara region, are systematically denied the most fundamental human right: the right to life, safety, and peace. What makes the observance of this year’s International Day of Peace particularly significant is that it comes at a time when organizations in Ethiopia that seek peace, justice, and freedom have come together to establish a joint organization under the principle of “The Ethiopian People’s Forces Alliance for Survival.”
This cooperation brings together organizations committed to safeguarding the comprehensive security and well-being of their respective peoples and to confronting what they regard as the anti-peace and anti-people policies and actions of the Prosperity Party regime in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa.
The formation of this organization represents a collective commitment to cooperation, unity, peace, justice, freedom, and the protection of the fundamental rights and security of the Ethiopian people.
The Regime’s Sole Responsibility for the Absence of Peace
True peace cannot exist in the absence of justice, equality, and the rule of law. The current ruling genocidal regime in Ethiopia bears sole and direct responsibility for the catastrophic collapse of peace across the nation. Instead of fostering national unity, the regime has consistently weaponized state apparatuses to instigate violence, orchestrate massacres, and execute drone strikes against innocent civilians. The state-sponsored instability has turned Ethiopia into a zone of perpetual conflict, entirely due to the regime's tyranny and refusal to embrace peaceful, democratic transitions.

Amplifying the Voices of the Victims
The United Nations was founded on the ashes of global devastation to ensure that humanity never again suffers from unchecked atrocities. In alignment with the UN's founding principles, the voices of the victims must be heard. We speak today for the thousands of civilians massacred, the mothers grieving their slaughtered children, the millions displaced from their ancestral homes, and those languishing in horrific concentration camps. Their suffering cannot be ignored or buried under diplomatic rhetoric; their plight demands immediate global attention and action.

The Right to Lasting Peace and AFNM’s Core Mission
Peace is not merely the absence of active warfare; it is the presence of justice. Every human being deserves to live free from fear. The AFNM calls on the United Nations to refocus its attention on Ethiopia according to its core mandate. We explicitly state that our movement is not fighting for political dominance, but for sustainable, lasting peace, justice and the preservation of our people from existential threats. We are fighting to establish a system where the rule of law prevails and where no citizen is targeted based on their ethnicity.

Forced Conscription and the Dangerous Incitement of Civil War
The regime's desperation has led to alarming and dangerous tactics that threaten to destabilize the entire Horn of Africa።

Forced Youth Conscription: The regime is forcefully abducting and conscripting the country’s youth, dragging them from their families and schools to serve as cannon fodder in an unjust war, deeply disrupting local communities and family structures.

Abiy Ahmed's Airstrike Kills 14 and Injures 22 in Alamata of Southern #Tigray, Mayor Says

September 22, 2026 (Tigray Mass Media Agency) — An airstrike by the genocidal Abiy Ahmed’s regime on Alamata in Southern Tigray killed 14 civilians and severely injured 22 others, who are receiving treatment at Alamata General Hospital, according to Mayor of the city, Moges Shiferaw.

Moges stated that the genocidal Abiy Ahmed regime carried out 20 drone strikes on Alamata at around 9:30 a.m. on September 22, 2026, followed by a 21st strike by a jet that killed 14 civilians and severely injured 22 others. He said the strikes targeted civilians traveling to a market and areas along the Alamata–Tmuga route, including near Zekre Meles Secondary School and Iyasu Berhe Secondary School. The attacks also caused extensive damage to the two schools, according to the mayor.

The mayor said the daily attacks by the genocidal Abiy Ahmed’s regime continue to cut short Tigrayan lives and destroy property and livelihoods. He added that the attacks reflect the regime’s desire to eradicate the people of Tigray.

The mayor condemned the strikes and urged residents to take precautions to reduce casualties from further attacks.

Ever since Ethiopia fell into the hands of Prosperity’s personalist, dictatorial and genocidal regime, war, genocide, mass slaughter and absolute poverty have become its defining features. It has become a country in which law and order have collapsed; millions have fallen into severe poverty and been displaced; hope for its citizens has vanished; and the government declares one destructive war after another. Dictatorial rule has been imposed upon it, and it has moved beyond state failure to face the danger of disintegration. It has also become a country pushed to the margins of regional and international political, economic and diplomatic affairs, deprived of its
voice and influence.

The regime rests on a distorted narrative and an anti-people state structure. It is at odds with reason and truth, equality and the participation of the peoples, justice and freedom, the dignity of the people and the sovereignty of the country. Because it does not pursue peaceful and constructive approaches, it has neither the will nor the capacity to halt the war consuming the
country and its peoples; bring lasting peace; guarantee citizens’ rights and freedoms; establish law and order; or end the peoples’ suffering and torment, poverty and backwardness. To achieve its sinister objectives, this dictatorial and genocidal regime has become a mercenary of foreign powers, selling out the interests of the peoples and turning the country into a subservient and dependent state.

Accordingly, we, the peoples’ forces concerned with the survival of Ethiopia’s peoples, bear the historic responsibility of overthrowing this regime, safeguarding the survival of all nations, nationalities and peoples, and opening a new chapter. The historic mission and first objective of the peoples’ forces is to defend ourselves collectively against the devastating war declared upon us; remove Prosperity’s personalist and dictatorial system, which has endangered the survival of our peoples and the security of the country; and bring about the establishment of an inclusive transitional government guided by a transitional charter. In doing so, we seek to open a new transitional chapter in which the human and democratic rights of all Ethiopians can be guaranteed in full, without diminution.

The principal objectives of the transitional period that begins after the regime’s fall will be:
1. To safeguard the survival of the peoples and the security of the country; stop all wars; guarantee human and democratic rights; maintain peace and security; stabilize the social and economic crisis; improve relations with neighboring countries; and restore the country’s regional and international standing.
2. In the interests of peace in the country and the continued survival of its peoples, to conduct an honest, trustworthy, fully inclusive and participatory popular and constitutional dialogue, through which decisive questions concerning the peoples and the
country will be resolved with the direct participation of the peoples.

Accordingly, we, the peoples’ forces listed below, have agreed to coordinate our popular and organizational capacities to remove Prosperity’s personalist, dictatorial and genocidal regime; guarantee the survival and security of our peoples; bring about the establishment of an inclusive transitional government; and open a new democratic transitional chapter. We have also agreed to resolve our differences peacefully, on the basis of the freely expressed will of our peoples, principles and a lawful order.

1. To all Ethiopians, civic associations and political organizations: Recognizing that the regime is a force determined to destroy the very existence of all the peoples of Ethiopia, we respectfully call upon Ethiopian popular forces, civic associations and political organizations that accept the Alliance’s objectives and approach to struggle to become partners in our struggle for survival.
2. To the regime’s armed forces and their leadership: Recognizing that the regime you serve poses an existential threat to the peoples of Ethiopia, and that it is anti-people, anti-peace, anti-democratic and genocidal, we call upon you, before it is too late, to join and become partners in the struggle to save your people and your country.
3. To neighboring countries, African countries and the international community: Recognizing that the genocidal regime in power is alienated from the people; that it has neither the capacity nor the will to establish peace and stability in Ethiopia or the Horn of
Africa; and that it is a regime in its twilight, nearing removal from power through the people’s struggle, we call upon you to stand with the peoples, justice and democracy.
