@amy2ree @emmeth42 @AstroBackyard Same! I can fit my rig in a backpack which is way more important to me. AstroBackyard and the rest of them have great info, but it’s better to pick and choose what’s most relevant to how you want to do it.

@amy2ree @emmeth42 I’m not sure if your iOptron has the polar scope built in (I think it does), but definitely use it if you have it. It’s a bit of trial and error, especially for deep space. Milky Way photos can be rough polar aligned, but deep space needs to be pretty spot on

@amy2ree @emmeth42 I use a @VixenOptics Polarie and have a polar scope and a polar meter compass for it. I’ll research the latitude before I shoot and align with that and with Polaris using the scope and an app Vixen offers (Polaris is a tiny bit off center).

@amy2ree @emmeth42 Polar alignment is probably THE thing that will make or break your pics in the early days.

@amy2ree @emmeth42 Definitely follow @AstroBackyard @TheAstroPhotog @alynwallace @NebulaPhotos. Their YouTube videos are incredibly informative. For me though, it’s been a lot of trial and error. I still haven’t nailed deep sky, but I feel pretty good about my Milky Way stuff.

@amy2ree @emmeth42 Yeah, a good ball head is an absolute must, but the iOptron has a payload of 11lbs I think, unless you got the counterweight system? So any ball head that can support 11lbs should suffice. Are you looking to do a Timelapse or single image/stack?
