@HockeyExpert98 I think as the whistle went (decision needed) it was 50/50 so I understand why that judgement was made. It's easy to second-guess after the fact.
Tonight’s #MemorialCup Final marks the last assignment for Richard Trottier as the QMJHL’s Director of Officiating, a position he has held for the past 16 seasons.
A former referee in both our league and the @NHL, Richard is heading for a well-deserved retirement.
Congratulations on a tremendous career and thank you for everything Richard! 👏
@Nilan3073@ScoutingTheRefs Not really. They said there was no interference. I'm going to assume they felt that the contact did not impact his ability to make the save.
@Sportsnutz99 That's the philosophical debate that continues. Should an unseen major (by refs) be able to be reduced to 2 or should the only option be 5 or 0? Right call was 2 min but I see what you're saying.
@StatBoy_Steven@McInnispicks Interference calls are judgment and not always easy. The overiding factor when it's not called is that the player turns with the forechecker, both are going same direction and he keeps his feet moving. You can take away somebody's ice and make them take a longer path to the puck
@afewpucksshort@_drunkFlyersfan@NHL@espn@Sportsnet@TVASports As long as you drop it immediately in front of you there is no issue with that play. It becomes an issue when you move your glove laterally away, in an attempt to evade or deke out a defender. You also cannot catch it and then pivot 180° before dropping it.
@P_Can01044 If you call a penalty for delay of game the penalized team can call a coaches challenge to say it was deflected. If it's inconclusive the team receives another delay of game penalty and that's why the referees are not going to guess on a play that they are unsure about
@SayItAintJoe12 I hear you Joe, the problem is, it then becomes a slippery slope that every time there is a missed minor penalty we default to a major just to go to a review. Then we are essentially refereeing by video and I don't think people really want that
@brandon77evans No idea. There is a mechanism to request a pool reporter be allowed to ask questions in the locker room although I don't know how often it is used or approved.
