Can’t help but think, looking at these pictures of Christmas Eve in #HongKong, that the birth Christians celebrate tomorrow is a rebuke and a challenge to tyrants everywhere #StandWithHongKong
I am Ryan Lai, student journalist and documentary filmmaker. I was struck by a canister of tear gas fired by police on August 5.
The video taken by me at that time when #hkpolice fired teas gas.
There was NO protesters nearby and
I was targeted.

[My comment on UN Security Council statement unexpectedly omitted the phrase ‘Berlin process’]
1/ I find entirely absurd & utterly alarming that 🇨🇳 flexes its muscles in 🇺🇳 & denies 🇩🇪 credit by chopping its contributions to Libya just because @HeikoMaas held a meeting with me.
Got report today on #HongKong from pro-democracy legislator Dennis Kwok. Biggest takeaway: the police violence is getting WORSE - and it’s sanctioned by #China. (HK police chief just returned from Beijing.) #StandWithHongKong https://t.co/ZuQe3wU0W8
中國制TG 化驗結果出爐 : 山埃毒爆錶😨 @hkpoliceforce has been using teargas canisters made in🇨🇳w/ cyanide against ALL🇭🇰ers. It's no longer human rights abuse. It's an attempt 2 commit genocide, a crime against humanity! This should motivate ALL🇭🇰ers 2 vote against🇭🇰govt in 2020!
Over 10,000 tear gas canisters have been fired on the streets of HK, yet the government refuses to reveal the toxic material inside. I brought part of one home to be examined at a lab in America! #HongKong#HK @FreedomHKG @hk_watch @BeWaterHKG #
The US Senate has just passed unanimously the #HongKong Human Rights & Democracy Act. To the protestors in Hong Kong: You did this. Your courage has moved the Senate. It has moved the Congress. It will move the world. #StandWithHongKong
.@SecPompeo: The U.S. is gravely concerned by deepening political unrest and violence in #HongKong. The CCP must honor its promises to the Hong Kong people, who only want the freedoms & liberties they have been promised in the Sino-British Joint Declaration, a UN-filed treaty.
The Chinese and #HongKong governments must immediately deescalate the situation and exercise restraint at #PolyU. More violence & bloodshed will only make things worse.
The world is watching. #StandWithHongKong#DemocracyForHK
Today we set in motion an expedited process in the Senate to pass the #HongKong democracy act. If no Senator objects it could pass as early as next Monday.

I was encouraged by a productive conversation with @MarcoRubio yesterday on legislation to further help the people of Hong Kong. The Senate needs to stand with Hong Kong and I hope we can take action soon.
Beijing should also consider the likely costs of any additional measures to undermine #HongKong’s autonomy—more political disruption, curtailed access to the global financial system, & new sanctions by the US and the international community. 5/5
