If you tell AI to always consider the worst-case scenario, it may become alarmist.

If you tell it to focus only on the most likely diagnosis, it may become falsely reassuring.

Maybe the goal isn't either.

Maybe “safe AI” shouldn’t mean “give me the simplest answer.”

It should mean: an answer calibrated to uncertainty, transparent about limitations, and explicit about what could change the conclusion.

That’s much harder—and much more interesting.

Here's the paradox:

The probability of an outcome and the consequence of missing it are not the same thing.

A rare diagnosis can deserve attention precisely because the cost of overlooking it is enormous.

So:

low probability ≠ low importance.
