We love a good combination of parallel/linked texts! The vivid, powerful descriptions of colours in Colour of Hope are great WAGOLLs to describe colours from Black Book of Colour to a blind child. For the colours the crayons produce. Or for the blind princess in Cinnamon.

After reading @TolaOkogwu & @EfuaTraore recently, I went on the look out for other kids books set in West Africa. I found these for elementary/primary children. What else could I add, set in West Africa? #WestAfricanKidLit#weneeddiversebooks

Developing GDS Writers in Year 5 and 6
*NEW* 4 session course starts October
Aims to increase confidence of teachers to grow more GDS writers. Plenty of practical ideas and approaches that can be implemented immediately. Search 'greater depth' in LMS for details.
Wonderful example of linked/parallel texts in a rich reading unit - Springwood Federation, Havant. They carefully ensure their long term overview enables links to prior learning eg portal stories in year 3 + 4 with Alice in Wonderland in Year 5. Great reading working wall too!
Lovely examples Sophie. Thanks for sharing from @hiasenglish ‘Identifying Gaps in Children’s Writing - practical problem solving’ course with Oxfordshire schools.
A great idea from @hiasenglish - using diagrams to represent sentence structures. I’ve planned it into my current unit of writing based on The Mysteries of Harris Burdick which has worked well so far!
