@MartinHTrauth @NikoSarcevic Had a 66% position to fulfill my assistant obligations (teaching, supervising, correcting, do funded projects, organizing) used my free time to do whatever I was passionate about with the equipment provided to get my PhD.
It's sad that academics get reduced to 'students'.

@MartinHTrauth @NikoSarcevic Never use "student" for anyone above a Masters. Unfortunately language gets progressively blurred. Did my PhD as a scientific assistant (wiss. Mitarbeiter) and was taxpaying staff.
We keep learning, but a 'student' is not payed. So PhD candidates (Doktorand) are not students. 1/2

@maheensidd91 @AcademicChatter In my group it was common to give the supervisor, fanily and friends signed copies with a thankyou/motivational text. I got 7 and I am keeping them proudly in my 'library'. When I finished I printed 25. Printing expenses can be filed in tax returns in some countries.

@DianaFerroBio @AcademicChatter Exactly! The scientific 'training' is finished with a Masters. PhD is for further independent scientific maturation, where technical questions are not expected if it is within your research area.

@mgblango @AcademicChatter Hate the "first author et al." as noone will remember the name of the PhD student. It should always be the main corresponding author et al. to be able to put the paper into context. Rest in angew. formatting but only with the starting page number.
