On the sidelines of the African Union Emergency Health Summit, I held productive bilateral and multilateral discussions with H.E. President John Dramani Mahama of Ghana at Jubilee House.

Ethiopia deeply values its longstanding friendship with Ghana, rooted in the shared ideals of Pan-Africanism and a common commitment to Africa's unity and progress. We welcomed the completion of Ghana's new Chancery building in Addis Ababa, a fitting symbol of the enduring bonds between our two countries.

President Mahama expressed his appreciation for Ethiopia's historic role as a symbol of African freedom and unity, and for the progress our country continues to make through initiatives such as the Green Legacy and other national development efforts.

We also commended the excellent preparations underway for the 12th Tana Forum and expressed our appreciation for the strong leadership of the Tana Forum Board in advancing dialogue on peace, security, and Africa's future.

Ethiopia will continue to deepen its close partnership with Ghana in advancing our shared African and global interests.

IGAD Executive Secretary H.E. Workneh Gebeyehu, speaking at the opening of the National Dialogue, emphasized that no country has ever been built or prospered through conflict. While acknowledging that political differences are natural, he stressed that resolving them through force is a fundamental mistake, underscoring that dialogue and peaceful engagement are the only path to lasting solutions. He also noted that Ethiopia has a rich tradition of indigenous dialogue and consensus-building mechanisms.

The beginning of tomorrow’s dialogue process is not merely an ordinary political forum. It is also the beginning of a new chapter in our history and one that will determine the destiny of both our generation and those to come, as well as our shared hopes for the future.

To all of you who are committed to securing lasting peace, stability, and comprehensive prosperity for our country, and who care deeply about Ethiopia’s greatness: the opportunity is here, and the time is now.

Just as our forefathers and foremothers fought at the Battle of Adwa with their blood and their lives for the freedom, sovereignty, and honor of our nation, today Ethiopia once again calls upon her sons and daughters who are ready to shoulder the responsibility entrusted to them by history. Yet in this moment, our country does not seek those who bear rifles. Rather, it seeks champions of peace and people equipped with maturity of thought, truth, knowledge, and steadfast determination.

Today, as in the past, we stand on the eve of the beginning of a great victory, because the triumph of Ethiopia and her peoples is inevitable. Through civilized discourse, peaceful dialogue, and national consensus, we will overcome all the challenges before us and, together, advance toward prosperity.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed traveled to Qatar to pay his respects following the passing of Qatar’s former Amir and HH Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. His visit reflects the longstanding friendship between Ethiopia and Qatar and honors the legacy of a leader who left a lasting impact on the region and the world.

May HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani rest in eternal peace, and may the people of Qatar find strength and comfort during this time of mourning.

Today, we officially inaugurated the King Tekle Haymanot Airport, which the people of Debre Markos and the surrounding communities had eagerly awaited for many years. The airport, which had been out of service for nearly 30 years, has now been modernized, upgraded to a higher standard, and rebuilt.

Constructed with a 2,400-meter-long and 30-meter-wide runway, the airport now has the capacity to accommodate large passenger and cargo aircraft such as the Q400 and B737. The commencement of operations at this airport will significantly stimulate trade, investment, and tourism in the area, opening a new chapter for the economic growth of the area and our country as a whole.

By turning challenges into opportunities, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment through action—responding step by step to our people’s development needs and completing the mega projects we have launched with both quality and speed so they can be delivered for public use.
