🚨 Do you know what the percentage of you going up the middle in a game actually is? If we look at balls in the air 25-30% of hitters actually end up hitting the ball directed towards the middle (CF), I’m sure that’s where most coaches tell their athletes to hit the ball right.. pick a side of the plate (pull/oppo) and then understand that you will have higher success rate given that 70-75% of balls are hit to the pull side or the back side. Understanding that our eyes see 3 people in the outfield and want to divide our success (100%) into 3 (LF/CF/RF) which would come out to 33.3% (not a very high success rate) instead let’s work gap to gap! Take the center fielder out of the equation and divide the outfield into 2 (LF/RF) which gives you a 50% chance of getting the ball into the gap which leads to more extra bases. Reading pitches early and understanding different barrel depths on certain pitches will take you into the gaps instead of just throwing the bat out there trying to hit the ball back up the middle. 🚨
