The #EU4Culture 🇪🇺 programme, born in the aftermath of the devastating 2019 earthquake, became one of the largest European Union investments in cultural heritage in Albania 🇦🇱 and the Western Balkans, with €40 million dedicated to the restoration and revitalisation of 23 sites across 11 municipalities in Albania.

From damaged castles, churches, museums, and historic spaces, this programme brought back to life places that carry the memory, identity, and stories of Albanian communities.

Today, these sites are not only restored monuments, but new spaces for tourism, local development, education, and connection between generations.

In Kurbin🇦🇱, cooking became a way to preserve the community’s shared memory. Through the project “Timeless Tastes: Immerse yourself in the aromas and ballads of Kurbin”, under #EU4Culture 🇪🇺 and implemented by the Albanian Local Capacity Development Foundation, women, families, and communities came together in kitchens, gardens, and courtyards to share recipes, memories, and knowledge passed down from generation to generation, led by Dhurata Thanasi.

To keep these flavours alive beyond those gatherings—and to turn them into something lasting—the Kurbin Recipe Book was also prepared: a collection that preserves not only dishes, but also the knowledge, creativity, and the role of women in keeping traditions alive. Initiatives like these create natural links between culture, skills, and sustainable tourism, because when a place preserves its flavours, it also preserves its identity. 🌿🍞
