The importance of journalism to safeguard democracy and of press freedom as a right worthwhile defending - these were our topics when I met future journalists at the Media College at the University of Baghdad yesterday. Congrats to the graduating class of 2026!

إحياء قلب بغداد سيُسهم في تنشيط السياحة. لقد سُررتُ بزيارة مشروع «اقرأ داون تاون» الذي افتُتح حديثًا، بما في ذلك «غاليري للفنون والإبداع» في شارع المتنبي، والذي يضم مكتبات ومحالّ للحِرف اليدوية، إضافةً إلى مرافق للضيافة وفندق.

Re-vitalizing Baghdad‘s heart will help tourism. I was impressed to visit the newly opened Iqraa Down Town including the Gallery for Arts and Creativity at Mutanabi Street, with book- and handicraft shops as well as catering and a boutique hotel. I wish good luck and success!

The attack against Safaa Al-Mashhadani is an attack against Iraqi democracy. Political violence is unacceptable & the perpetrators must be brought to justice. Our sincere condolences to Al-Mashhadani’s family and friends. Calling for a peaceful, non-violent electoral process.

Team Europe works also in KRI: The EU Ambassador Klemens Semtner met the heads of the diplomatic missions of the EU Member States in Erbil. Rich exchanges on local political, economic, & cultural cooperation, as well as on the Baghdad-KRI dynamics ahead of the federal elections.
