I find surgery (particularly plastic surgery) extremely rewarding; however, it is not without its challenges. The application processes can be tedious and time consuming, which is difficult for doctors who will undoubtedly have many commitments they are trying to balance. -
Mike graduated from Glasgow University in 2003. He trained in Plastic Surgery in Scotland. He subspecialised in Gender Affirmation Surgery following fellowships in Finland and Belgium. Mike is a Consultant Plastic Surgeon in NHS Tayside and Fife.
His main clinical interests are in trauma and reconstruction, with a focus on hand and upper limb trauma. His research interests are closely tied to this, focusing on clinical trials in trauma and reconstructive surgery, outcome measurement and evidence synthesis.

He is the Trainee Lead for the Reconstructive Surgery Trials Network and has previously held both the Research Rep and Hand Surgery Rep positions within PLASTA. He is an Associate Surgical Specialty Lead for Plastic and Hand Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
