Good news from Montréal, where the 42nd ICAO Assembly takes place. Russia failed to get elected to both groups 1 and 2 of the ICAO Council.

This is a welcome development — a state that wages full-scale aggression, disregards aviation safety, and the Chicago Convention cannot shape the future of global civil aviation.

The 42nd ICAO Assembly’s work strengthens global aviation security, defends the rules-based order, and holds the aggressor accountable.

In Montreal, Canada, I spoke at the opening of the 42nd General Assembly of the @icao.

Aviation is more than just an industry. It is a vital link that connects people and countries. Europe remains fully committed to working with ICAO and its Member States toward a safer and more sustainable future for aviation.

In the margins of the Assembly, I held meetings with Ministers of Transport from around the world, including @SecDuffy of the United States, H.E. Saleh bin Nasser AlJasser of Saudi Arabia, Hiromasa Nakano of Japan, @stevenmackinnon of Canada, as well as with the heads of ICAO and IATA. I also chaired the joint meeting of the EU Member States with ICAO and represented the EU at the 8th Ministerial Session of the International Aviation Climate Ambition Coalition (IACAC).

We also marked the 20th anniversary of the EU’s Representation to ICAO in Montreal. For two decades, Europe has been a dedicated partner of ICAO, working to advance safe, sustainable, and innovative aviation worldwide.

Finally, I met with MEPs of the @EP_Transport of the European Parliament that are taking part in ICAO’s General Assembly.

I visited the @Airbus facilities & the A220 Final Assembly Line in Mirabel, Canada.

The A220 is a clear example of how European innovation drives efficiency and sustainability in aviation – reducing fuel consumption and emissions, and contributing to our goal of carbon-neutral aviation by 2050.

We need European industry leaders like Airbus to maintain the EU’s competitiveness in the global aviation sector.
