NEMA Holds Management Retreat to Review Performance, Strengthen Strategic Direction.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has commenced a Management Retreat to review the Agency’s performance over the past operational year and set strategic priorities for enhanced service delivery. The retreat brings together senior and middle-level management to assess achievements, identify challenges, and chart a results-driven path forward.
Speaking at the opening, NEMA Director General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, stressed the need for proactive and cohesive operations in the face of complex disaster risks. The retreat, guided by clear Key Performance Indicators (KPls), aims to strengthen disaster preparedness, response coordination, and institutional performance, underscoring the Agency’s commitment to accountability, continuous improvement, and efficient service delivery nationwide.

Dr. Otive Igbuzor delivered a thought-provoking charge today at the 7th Cohort Graduation of the Centre LSD/Kebetkache Leadership School in Port Harcourt, reminding graduands that real leadership begins after the certificate.
He emphasized that leadership is not about titles or positions, but about service, compassion, and transformational impact. Visionary leaders are those who build bridges, unite people, and choose purpose over politics.
“Politics divides, but purpose unites.”
His message challenged every emerging leader to become a source of hope, healing, and courage in their communities.

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has appeared before the Joint Committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives to defend the Agency's budget estimates for the 2025 fiscal year.
The joint sitting was composed of members of the Senate Committee on Special Duties, chaired by Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, and the House of Representatives Committee on Emergency and Disaster Management, chaired by Rt. Hon. Joseph Bassey. Senator Lawan presided over the session, with Hon. Bassey serving as Co-Chair.
During her presentation, the DG NEMA provided updates on the performance of the 2024 approved budget and outlined the Agency’s proposed allocations for 2025, justifying the estimates based on the Agency’s strategic goals and operational needs.
Following the presentation, the members of the Committees engaged in discussions about the estimates, culminating in the adoption of a motion for further legislative actions to review the allocations to NEMA for disaster management.
The Legislators commended NEMA's achievements in 2024 and emphasized the need for increased support to enhance its capacity to respond to emergencies and manage disasters effectively in the country.
