Last week, Under Secretary William Kimmitt joined @EximBankUS Chairman John Jovanovic and White House Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Global Supply Chain David Copley at Mesabi Metallics’ new $2.5 billion iron ore mine and pellet plant in Nashwauk, Minnesota. The visit included a demonstration blast at the mine as operations ramp up at the site.

The project represents the first new iron ore mine and pellet plant to start up in the United States in 50 years—a major investment in America’s industrial base and the upstream inputs essential to American steelmaking.

Under President Trump, the Administration has made strengthening domestic supply chains and expanding U.S. production of the raw materials that underpin American manufacturing a priority. From iron ore to finished steel, the Trump Administration is supporting efforts to bring the entire supply chain for this critical capability to the United States—and those efforts are already producing historic results.
