Displaying these microscopy pictures on a giant canvas conveys 2 messages :
🧬First, it shows how beautiful life is, even at the tiniest scale, and sharing the art we generate on a daily basis while doing science is something very close to my heart. #ArtsAndScience
Not only does it reduces our environmental footprint, by decreasing the amount of cells needed to run such screens, but it also reduces the need for animal testing. Additionally, it provides a physiological model in cases where animal models are simply not applicable.
This miniaturized format will help us scale up our research and be more predictive when screening for new drugs, or even when looking for the right drug at the right dose for the right patient. #OrgansOnChips
The pictures show human endothelial cells in a tissue mimic. By loading them in a chip, we are able to mimic different aspects of blood circulation, from the self-assembly of vessels to the vascularisation of a new environment, like in macular degeneration or tumor growth.
