Miracles received can either be lost or sustained.
Receiving a miracle is not the end of the process. There is a responsibility to retain what God has given us. God gives the miracle, man receives it, and through cooperation with God, the miracle is sustained.
In 2 John 1:8, we are admonished to watch out so that we do not lose what we have worked for, but may be rewarded fully. This shows us that it is possible to lose what we have received. Similarly, in 2 Timothy 1:14, we are instructed to keep the good thing committed to us by the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus healed the man at the pool of Bethesda, He later met him in the temple and said, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you” (John 5:14). This reveals the importance of sustaining the miracle received. Jesus made it clear that returning to an old sinful pattern could lead to a worse condition.
However, there are misconceptions about losing a miracle that must be corrected.
The first misconception is that when you lose a miracle, it means God has taken it away. This is not true. Romans 11:29 tells us that God’s gifts and His call can never be withdrawn. God does not take back the gifts He has given.
The second misconception is that losing a miracle means you never received it in the first place. This is also untrue. Hebrews 2:1 admonishes us to give earnest attention to the things we have heard, lest we let them slip away. The fact that something has slipped away does not mean it was never received. It means it was not retained.
The third misconception is that everyone who loses a miracle must have sinned. Although sin can contribute to the loss of a miracle, it is not the only possible reason. In John 9:1–3, when the disciples asked Jesus whether the blind man or his parents had sinned, Jesus answered that neither had sinned. This shows us that not every infirmity is a consequence of personal sin. Therefore, we must not automatically attribute every lost miracle to sin.
God is responsible for giving the miracle, but we have a responsibility to receive and sustain what He has given us. The process does not end at receiving; it continues with retention.

ONE OF THE GREATEST CAUSES OF WEAKNESS IN THE PURSUIT OF GOD'S PURPOSE IS FEAR.
THE MOMENT YOU BECOME AFRAID THAT YOU WILL FAIL OR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TASK, YOU WEAKEN YOURSELF FROM DOING WHAT GOD WANTS YOU TO DO.
BELOVED, REFUSE TO FEAR AS YOU SUBMIT TO GOD
