@TrevorAllenMD PRB 2024 goes out of its way to be kinda bonkers about minutiae like this, but it helps little hiccups like this become easier to brush away. 4/4
@TrevorAllenMD Essentially, it's not "weird" that we can't use face-down mons even if policy treats 'em public for the moment, bc material usage rules themselves don't care about that. We can only use face-downs we possess bc of an explicit part of the material rules telling us we can. 3/
@bel_zombie@atrocityTCG Apart from about a second or two of making sure we hear the player correctly, we can pretty quickly make clear we have zero interest in entertaining or welcoming absurdities like this in our events, by quickly and matter-of-factly citing an infraction.
@atrocityTCG And that's if we don't instead interpret the behavior as willful misinterpretation of gamestate or game rules. Given the screenshot, I'm inclined to see it as willful misinterpretation, which would instead be the infraction UC-Cheating. Either way, easy to smash nonsense.
@atrocityTCG either a child innocently just doesn't know what "calling" a toss is, or someone older knows and is asking this absurdity anyway. In the former, we calmly teach a kid. In the latter, we state no one is entitled to waste the event's time and cite SP-Minor. 1/
@CauyGibson@Ryan_on_cEDH Ends up a case of "ygo behavior is always subject to review". So in ygo I advise people communicate honestly and forthcomingly about the things one is entitled to know, AND state "I am not to provide this information" about things that one is not entitled to know. 3/3
@CauyGibson@Ryan_on_cEDH Related to that, ygo policy is kinda open-ended to prevent safe harbor for things that policymakers and staff find unacceptable or unsportsmanlike - everything is scrutinizable for the sake of "has someone found a new way to take something innocuous and make it no longer so". 2/
@SkarlonYGO on some level I find it damn peculiar. I mean, my ygorg translation team in theory has cause to be emotionally attached to fan localizations, but we aren't attached that way bc we understand the nature of localization. Hmmm.
@SkarlonYGO Side note: At events, there's nothing as important as mutual intelligibility and clarity, and official names are clear. As a judge I wonder if this ick factor about official names may only be felt by folks who don't much care about the bigger picture. 2/
@SkarlonYGO I've never seen the "they changed it so now it sucks" attitude among my team, despite us being *the ones coming up with* some fanmade localizations: so I end up confused by folks who may outright refuse official localization. How often do you see people do that, Skarlon? 1/
