We were so honoured when Arthur Marotti accepted our invitation to speak at this conference so thrilled that the moment for his plenary has arrived! #EMInns

Questioning of established ideas about Innsmen as uninterested in a legal education being made by Marotti. Their personal anthologies show care for political activism as well as recreational verses; don’t write them off as disengaged from legal learning and practice. #EMInns

Marotti’s research uncovers what we might call innvisible writers, Innsmen so far not known for poetic endeavours, like John Hoskins, Benjamin Rudyard and Nicholas Hare.

Others have strong relationships to Inns and their members as well as tracing courtly and provincial connections in a non systematic approach to collections which reflects the heterogenous interests and pursuits of these communities.

Some manuscript collections of poems this paper explores contain unique sets of poems, for example a set of gulling poems by John Davies.

These items recall diverse events from sobering deaths to dancing in revels.

Marotti identifies manuscripts we can with the environment of the Inns and how they demonstrate patterns of textual circulation there.
