Today, I had the honour of joining other leaders from South East to receive His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, during his working visit to Anambra State. The President’s visit is a show of his commitment to inclusive development and national unity, particularly his efforts to ensure that the South East region receives its fair share of infrastructural and economic growth.

Mr. President's presence in Anambra shows his appreciation of the longstanding support and goodwill he enjoys from our people. It also reflects his recognition of the strategic role the region plays in national development.

We remain steadfast in our support for his transformative agenda and commend his dedication to bridging developmental gaps across Nigeria.

We marked a significant step forward for our State as we performed the ground breaking ceremony for the Imo Central Market in Owerri. This project, with 6,000 shops, dedicated security units, hospital and other essential facilities, is poised to transform our local economy. It is designed not only to serve the Nigerian market but also the broader sub-Saharan region.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to former President Olusegun Obasanjo for honoring us with his presence at this ceremony. His wealth of experience remains invaluable, and we look forward to continued collaboration in our efforts to serve the people.

The State Government is committed to fostering an environment where commerce thrives. With the construction of this market, we aim to boost economic activities significantly and attract increased direct foreign investment, ensuring a prosperous future for our community.

We have recognized the shift from an analogue to a digital economy, and there is need to embrace the digital age and its economic potential, especially in space travel, of which Imo State Government is committed to supporting collaborations in space research.

I made this known while receiving a team from the National Space Research Development Agency (NASRDA) and Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) who visited with a message on Space Economy and how the State can benefit.

Keying into this great opportunity, I have directed the Commissioner for Education, and Science and Technology to ensure an engagement with schools, inspiring students to explore astrology.

My heart is heavy with shock and deep sorrow over the tragic motor accident that occurred last night at the IMSU junction in Owerri, claiming the lives of our innocent citizens, many of whom were young students with bright futures. This incident has shaken me to my core, given the grievous loss of lives.

We have previously implemented various measures to prevent such tragedies, yet it is with great sadness that we find ourselves facing this heart-wrenching incident. Our emergency response teams were deployed immediately to the scene, but despite their swift actions, the outcome remains devastating.

Despite the preliminary report which linked it to a truck with failed break, I have ordered a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to this incident, ensuring that we take every possible step to prevent a recurrence. Also, I have directed the Commissioner for Health to ensure adequate medical attention to those who sustained injuries even as I wish them quick recovery.

My deepest condolences go out to the families who have lost their loved ones. We stand with you in this unimaginably difficult time, offering our support and prayers. May the souls of the departed find eternal rest.

The Holy Eucharistic celebration today was an amazing one as we celebrated Rev. Fr. Gilbert Alaribe, the amazing chaplain at the Government House Chapel for his birthday and my Deputy, H.E. Dr. Chinyere Ekomaru who bagged a PhD from UNN.

Fr. Alaribe isn't just a chaplain; he's a beacon of hope and comfort for everyone who crosses his path. His dedication to duty and his ability to use the teachings of Christ to spread love and kindness are truly inspiring, and it is my prayer for God to continue to pour out His blessings upon him abundantly.

Happy birthday, Fr. Alaribe!

In my address at the 52nd Convocation Lecture of the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN), I emphasized the important role universities must play in charting a course for a New Nigeria. Under the theme "Why Universities should lead the way to a new Nigeria," I highlighted the importance of academic institutions as hubs of innovation, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Research conducted by universities can provide viable solutions to contemporary challenges facing Nigeria. By leveraging their intellectual capital, academic institutions can offer insights into economic revitalization, social cohesion, and political stability. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, universities can spearhead initiatives that drive progress and development nationwide.

As the Government continues to invest in higher education, it is imperative for university management to allocate resources effectively and foster a culture of accountability. By harnessing the power of academia, we can collectively propel Nigeria towards a brighter future built on knowledge, innovation, and inclusive growth.
