Final #spectember day 30 sees a decendent of the Hawaiin petrel adapted to a lessened but still present threat of invasive predators. Their multi-chambered burrows lead threats to dead ends. Chicks also retain an exagerated egg tooth to dissuade smaller predators. #art

Going to be joining in a bit on #Spectember this year where I can. And this year I'm going to actually follow a prompt chart I found circulating reddit. Hoping to get back into some fun creature design and will really try to push my posing.

For day 26 of #spectember it's the Glue Trap Frog. This species lay patly buried in soft dirt through known ant foraging routes and wait for the insects to get caught on their highly sticky skin. Then they peel the ant-filled mucus into their mouths to feed. #art

@BiologyCarly @TetZoo Huh, wonder if it is influenced by their phylogenetic placement. They are close to ungulates, who don't really tend to go over a year. Wonder if other afrotherians have longer than expected pregnancies. Like what's a manatee or hyrax pregnancy length? 🤔
