Unpopular Opinion:
Lagos doesn’t have a waste problem.
Lagos has a discipline problem.
Let me explain. 🧵
1️⃣
We generate over 13,000 tonnes of waste daily.
That number shocks people.
But waste volume is predictable in a city of over 20 million people.
The real issue is behavior.
2️⃣
You cannot demand a clean city while:
• Refusing to pay waste bills
• Mixing food with recyclables
• Dumping trash in drainage at night
• Burning waste in your compound
Be honest.
3️⃣
Everyone blames the government.
But tell me:
If your estate refuses to pay PSP operators for 4 months,
How do you expect trucks to run on vibes?
Diesel is not motivational quotes.
4️⃣
PSP operators are bleeding.
• Diesel up
• Spare parts up
• Truck breakdowns constant
• Customers defaulting
Yet they are expected to perform miracles daily.
5️⃣
Now let’s talk about segregation.
Lagos residents want recycling.
But it won’t separate plastic from food waste.
Once contaminated, plastic loses value.
That “green dream” ends at your kitchen bin.
6️⃣
Here’s another uncomfortable truth:
The informal sector recovers more recyclables than many formal systems.
Cart pushers. Street pickers. Landfill workers.
They reduce landfill pressure daily.
Yet we pretend they don’t exist.
7️⃣
When you see waste on the roadside, it’s not always incompetence.
Sometimes it’s:
• Access blocked
• Payment default
• System overload
• Delayed evacuation
• Policy bottlenecks
Waste is logistical, not emotional.
8️⃣
Zero waste will not happen because we shout.
It will happen when:
• Residents pay consistently
• Segregation becomes culture
• The informal sector is structured
• Recycling becomes economically attractive
• Enforcement becomes real
9️⃣
Clean cities are not built by trucks.
They’re built by disciplined citizens and structured systems.
Until we accept that,
We’ll keep having the same debate every rainy season.
🔟
If this offends you, good.
Because the truth is uncomfortable.
But Lagos can work.
The system is stressed, not hopeless.

You want to know why those houses were abandoned ?
You will only find out when you take them over.

I hope you know that the page you’re referring to is known for fake news on this app..
The page has never shared anything with profound sources.
Very wrong page to react to.
Lamin has not said all those things
Beyond trying to appease the public , there is nothing beautiful in this.
Are they doing their jobs professionally? Yes.
Do they both have people in their lives they respect and regard so much? NO.
If one of them is your spouse, can you allow him/her to go about doing this show of shame with their ex?
What you’re seeing are two people who fell out, got into different relationships, moved ahead with other people, nothing is solidly working out, their kids are grown and tried to reconnect them, but they both know better than to get back together…. So they live together separately while hoping for something better out there

Imagine this, my brother/sister for Lagos...
You wake up early, traffic don already spoil your mood, reach market and one small mudu of garri wey you buy last month for ₦1,500 don jump to almost ₦2,000+ again. Beans dey pain the pocket. Lean season just start and e be like say hunger dey knock door louder than generator. 😩
Yet food dey rot for farm and market while 35 million of us face serious hunger.

@HAHayatu Choosing Atiku because of Madam NOI is not the issue…
The issue will arise when they start making policies that affect the northern hegemony and dominance.
