We think there is great potential for using #rstats to help solve some of the key data problems that LERCs share and there were some great ideas about collaboration, so one to watch.
Digital Ecology has been attending the @_ALERC_ conference today. It has been great to hear about all of the collaborative work LERCs are doing across the UK to strengthen and develop their businesses.
We also contributed to the #rstats session, showcasing the projects with @TeamNEYEDC and @RECORDLRC and talking more generally about how R can be used in the LERC context.
Understanding the heterogenity of the world is so important for making sure solutions are relevant (that word again!).
My thanks to Henry for the invitation today and for the stimulating discussion. (11/11)
Digital Ecology attended the @GeoCommunity#GeoCom22 conference @RGS_IBG in London today, at the kind invitation of Henry Odbert. The theme was 'Sustainability in a changing world' with a range of talks on this theme. So what will I take away from the conference? (1/11)
The third thing was reinforcing how important #geospatial is in #sustainability. What AND where is important for identifying problems and creating solutions. (10/11)
Today we ran the first session of our first #rstats training course for @_ALERC_ members. Usual teething issues with RTools, package installations etc., but most of the 45 delegates managed to get set up and run code.
We covered the basics of #rstats and using @rstudio and then got on to reading in data, some basic dplyr skills and checking for duplicates in biological records data.
Sharing - sharing outputs, insights and evidence digitally so we can achieve the best outcomes for the #environment.
It is really important to share your results and findings so that we can all learn and make better evidence informed decisions.
What does Digital Ecology means? This is what is means to us.
Data - collecting and managing #data more efficiently and collecting new and different complementary data.
That could be data from #drones, acoustic monitoring, camera traps or more.
Analysis - combing and analysing data to learn new things and generate new insights to support environmental decisions.
Sometimes the fun is in working out what you don't know you know!
