Today, the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) corrected their error.
Looking at the direct costs AND indirect costs of carbon pricing, they found that the VAST MAJORITY of households receive more back from the rebates than they pay!

Our Committee on Banking, Commerce and the Economy began its study of Bill S-243, the Enacting Climate Commitments Act yesterday.

Introduced by my colleague Senator Galvez, the purpose of the bill is to align the activities of federal financial institutions and other federally regulated entities with the superseding economic and public interest matter of achieving climate commitments. As the Sponsor of the bill, Senator Galvez was the first witness to appear before our committee to explain her bill and defend its merits.

Banks are already incorporating multiple reporting frameworks with objectives like those proposed in Bill S-243. I asked Senator Galvez about the risk of duplication and lack of harmonization between these various reporting requirements and frameworks.

Notre Comité des banques, du commerce et de l'économie a entamé hier l'examen du projet de loi S-243, Loi sur l’édiction d'engagements climatiques.

Introduit par ma collègue la sénatrice Galvez, ce projet de loi vise à aligner les activités des institutions financières fédérales et d'autres entités réglementées par le gouvernement fédéral sur la question primordiale de l'intérêt économique et public que représente la réalisation des engagements en matière de climat. En tant que marraine du projet de loi, la sénatrice Galvez a été la première témoin à se présenter devant notre comité pour expliquer son projet de loi et en défendre les mérites.

Les banques intègrent déjà de multiples cadres de rapport avec des objectifs tels que ceux proposés dans le projet de loi S-243. J'ai interrogé la sénatrice Galvez sur le risque de duplication et le manque d'harmonisation entre ces différentes exigences et cadres.
