This is what it’s all about! Nine members of our men’s basketball program heard their names announced today as they either completed their degree requirements or will finish this summer.
Mason Thiessen, Mayuom Buom, Gage McGuire, Tyreek Robinson, and student assistant Broderick Stewart arrived at ESU together in the fall of 2019 as members of our first full recruiting class. They are each earning their respective bachelors degrees.
Kaden Evans, Sam Baker, and student assistant Caden Brannan all arrived at Emporia State in the fall of 2021. Kaden and Caden are completing their bachelors degrees while Sam is earning his graduate degree.
Marquis McCray has been at ESU since our staff arrived here in the summer of 2018. He is earning his second degree from our institution, this time his Master’s in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.
Along the way these men have helped build this program from an inherited 9-19 record (4-15 MIAA) to a 23-9 record (15-7 MIAA) in 2022-23. They have helped lead our program to consistently being at or above the 3.0 GPA mark and win back-to-back NCAA D2 Helper/Helper Community Service national championships. They’ve played/coached in the NCAA tournament, won an NCAA tournament game for the first time in school history, and broke the NCAA school record for overall wins in a season and the program’s MIAA win record for wins in a season. They helped lead the program to back-to-back 20+ win seasons and have raised the bar and expectations for the program moving forward.
Most importantly, they are earning their degrees and have prepared themselves to be future husbands, fathers, high producing professionals in the real world, and contributing community members.
Athletics is a powerful vehicle and these men have utilized the game to maximize themselves and prepare for the future. The best is yet to come for each of them! #StingersUp 🐝
Congratulations to Kaden Evans as he graduates with his Bachelor’s degree this morning.
Kaden will return to the hardwood next year for the Hornets. He will be entering the MBA program. We are proud of you!
