The findings from these policy briefs will guide the process of updating Uganda’s five natural capital accounts: land, water, energy, ecosystem services, and forestry.
The briefs are being prepared through a collaborative effort involving Uganda @StatisticsUg, @Makerere, @mofpedU
I participated in the second validation workshop for the five policy briefs being developed in the area of Natural Capital Accounting. This work is part of @Makerere’s support to the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and to Uganda the co-Chair of the coalition.
The 4-day conference has brought together key policymakers and experts to share experiences and practical approaches to implementing inclusive green economy strategies.
Yesterday, Vice Chancellor @profNawangwe officially opened the Inclusive Green Economy (IGE) in Practice conference. The IGE program is a regional capacity-building initiative targeting senior civil servants and policymakers from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Rwanda.
It focuses on strengthening the ability of Gov'ts to design and implement policies that advance sustainable and inclusive economic growth. The @Sida-supported program underscores strong international collaboration in promoting green development & climate resilience in the region.
Vice Chancellor @ProfNawangwe has this morning opened a five-day (April 21-24) EfD- IGE cross country workshop convening 50 fellows across East Africa at the Imperial Resort Hotel in Entebbe.
15/04/2026:The Dean School of Business @MakCoBAMS, Assoc. Prof. Godfrey Akileng urged colleagues at the workshop to rethink how research translates into real economic value, emphasizing stronger research-to-industry pathways at @Makerere & beyond.
This work aligns with @Makerere’s ongoing support to the Coalition of Finance Ministers for Climate Action and the Pan African Forum of Finance Ministers on Climate Action, contributing to efforts to strengthen evidence-based climate policy and sustainable economic planning.
I hosted a Technical Working Group meeting on Natural Capital Accounting and climate-sensitive macroeconomic modelling. During the session, draft policy briefs on Natural Capital Accounts—focusing on forestry, energy, and biodiversity services—were presented and discussed.

@makerere has successfully concluded The First African Symposium on Natural Capital Accounting and Climate-Sensitive Macroeconomic Modelling held under the theme; Climate-Sensitive Macroeconomics: Rethinking Growth in Africa’s Natural Resource.
The two-day event was officially opened by Hon. Henry Musasizi -Minister of State for Finance (General Duties) -@mofpedU accompanied by Hon. Beatrice Anywar Atim, State Minister for Environment -@min_waterUg. The symposium was purposed to strengthen Africa's analytical and institutional capacity to integrate climate and natural capital considerations into macroeconomic and fiscal policy. Several stakeholders including policymakers, researchers, universities, think tanks, development partners including media participated.
