So, NASA is going to deflect an asteroid that is not on a collision course with Earth, away from Earth.

Tomorrow, NASA is making history by intentionally crashing a spacecraft into an asteroid to deflect it, testing a method of planetary defense (should an asteroid pose a major threat to Earth).
DART will crash into Dimorphos, (moonlet of Didymos), which poses no harm to us.
