Just heard it’s taking 9 weeks for claimants to go through a determination interview process if a potential disqualifying issue is discovered on your claim. Disqualifying issues are quit/fired, not available for work, not reporting earnings correctly amongst other things.

@CaUnemployed You might be put on a regular claim due to 2020 W2 earnings. Also might qualify for mixed earnings compensation (MEUC). Depends on how much W2 earnings were reported in 2020.

Q#2 of claim form asks “any reason (other than sick) that you could not have accepted full time work?”

We see a lot of claims held up because claimants put “taking care of my child due to COVID” or “quarantine due to COVID.” For these situations you should mark question 2 as No

@CaUnemployed Meanwhile on our end we see the same claimant call in daily and 2 to 3 times per day. Maybe there’s a trick to it?

@CaUnemployed The people I helped going through this are mostly people on PUA claims that exhausted prior to 12/26 and are waiting for the recalculation to be done. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is ask claimants to wait until the system is updated and money is added to their claim.

@val02611253 It looks like there’s a lot going on. The issue may be on our part just making sure the payments are being made on the correct claim which normally means suspending some claims to pay on others.

@LBOcean111 @SoCalBIGmike @nanatez You are not required to look for work on any type of unemployment claim. We are not scheduling determination appointments for those issues.

We have been instructed to start scheduling determination interviews again. Since March 2020 most eligibility issues were not scheduled for interviews due to Covid-19. Eligibility issues will delay your payment until you’re scheduled for a phone interview and are found eligible.

@LBOcean111 They both fall under Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) claims. The change should not cause any issues.

@ShellysMillions @BruteThePenguin @CA_EDD It is probably best to call. If the extension is at $0 then we have to check if they can be put on a new claim, a different extension, or PUA. They can also file for a new claim online which will also prompt us to see what we could put them on.
