I voted to support the Fire Marshall Fee Ordinance. It is common practice in the state and will help fund some of our Town's most fundamental needs. It passed 175-13-5.
On the Legislative & Rules motion to amend the Fire Marshall Fee Ordinance, I voted NAY. This would have diverted funds generated from this fee from the general fund to the Affordable Housing Trust - which I helped put together and support. It would set a bad precedent to
approve an arrangement of this sort; the BET and the RTM both need latitude to help make decisions on our finances without these pre-emptive constrictions. To the extent we would be earmarking something like this, in this case, the first consideration should be what

It's pretty crazy, in all these debates about Affordable Housing, the biggest concern is compliance with people in Hartford rather than looking at the legitimacy of demands and expectations from people who don't live in our Town.
