But since we’re a poor region it didn’t matter that we had a big otaku community 🤷🏻 it is just now that Japan recognizes there’s a market here now that anime has become mainstream internationally

There’s a reason why Dragon Ball, Digimon, Card Captor Sakura, Saint Seiya and many more are insanely big in LATAM since forever and didn’t really took off as big in the US and I’m almost certain it has a lot to do with the dub being fateful to the source material

LATAM fans I'm happy for you that you grew up with less strict standards and practices and got to watch the series from the beginning, but that's not the reality this dub released into, and it doesn't change the positive impact it had on the English NA market and anime fandom.

And having the original soundtrack, just play the first few seconds of Butterfly or Brave heart in LATAM and see the reaction. Or the thing about DBZ and the Mexican cartels.

The only US dubs that worked were on series that wanted to sell you toys, like Pokémon or Yu-Gi-Oh.
