ATTYS. JIMMY BONDOC AND JESS FALCIS CLASH OVER VP SARA’S MOTION TO DISMISS

Atty. Jimmy Bondoc and Atty. Jess Falcis engaged in a heated debate on #PolitikoTalks over the legal strategy behind Vice President Sara Duterte’s bid to have her impeachment case dismissed.

Bondoc defended the move as a routine legal tactic, arguing that defense lawyers are expected to first challenge a case on jurisdictional and procedural grounds before addressing the merits. He maintained that seeking a dismissal does not mean the defense is unwilling to answer the allegations during trial.

Falcis, however, pushed back, citing constitutional interpretations that the Senate’s role in an impeachment case is limited to conducting a trial and ultimately acquitting or convicting the respondent. He also questioned why key allegations, including the grave threats charge, were not directly addressed in the executive summary of the Vice President’s answer, fueling further debate on the appropriateness of the defense strategy.
