Why I've left journalism - a very long, self indulgent, probably boring and definitely belated thread that no one asked for.
But this is *my* account and on this decaying cruise liner of a website, so tough.
[Very long thread]
If you're a comms person, or a journo looking to jump ship, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine is looking for a Media and Communications Manager.
You'll be working with me, which is pretty cool.
Full details below, or drop me a DM for more info

@hannahmariezt Well said. Publishers/media owners need to realise that they’re shooting themselves in the foot by pivoting to GenAI. Audiences just do not trust AI-written journalism, and feel they are being treated with contempt when a platform feeds them it.
I hope you land on your feet.
We need to talk.
I found out last week that I, along with an unfathomable number of freelancers working under the company that owns ENUK, lost my freelance job.
AI played a significant role in this mass job loss. So let me be clear:
Journalism can NEVER be replaced with AI ⬇️
@Dom_Sacco@hannahmariezt@FallingDarragh@Ginjured As someone who recently left the profession, in large part because of sentiments about AI among media bosses, (and someone who’s been made redundant before..) my heart goes out to the reporters and writers here. It’s a rough time to be in journalism
There aren’t really the words to describe how frustrated and upset I am that writers have been let go by the current owners of Esports News UK.
@hannahmariezt, @FallingDarragh and @Ginjured have done an incredible job over the past year, they’ve gone above and beyond with their content, have worked really hard, and managed to continue my legacy/focus on UK angles while also handling other broader content the newer owners asked for.
I cannot recommend them highly enough.
To any other site owners and hirers out there looking to pick up writers who can handle esports/gaming news, interviews, event coverage, investigative write-ups and more, I really hope they give these three a look.
Good luck to all of them and please do support them if you can. I know Hannah has set up a Substack in the meantime too.
New analysis by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine reveals that there were 4,757 deaths associated with long A&E waits before admission in England last summer (1 June to 30 September 2025).
Watch @RCEMPresident with ITV’s @BeccaBarry here:

Number of patients in England waiting more than 12 hours in ED last year > 1.7 million. Number of associated deaths estimated > 16000. Number of sentences in budget mentioning emergency care = 0. Just leaving it there. https://t.co/Xv8X7qUxqZ
Have jumped back on here as sadly going through redundancy. If anyone in Cornwall or Devon needs a journalist or media officer (or if you have a remote role) then please do get in touch. Thanks.
We are on the South Coast this weekend at the @LibDems Party Conference in Bournemouth.
RCEM Vice President @RCEMvp_Salwa will be here to tomorrow meet with MPs and hear how they plan to address the biggest issues facing our members in EDs across the U.K.
#ResuscitateEmergencyCare
I didn’t time this intentionally like this - but as an ex-Reach journalist the news of even more redundancies is heartbreaking and, ultimately, a perfect example of what I’m talking about here
@Ella_Devereux@raaleh 3: Our media landscape
British journalism is not ok. Local news has been absolutely gutted in recent years, with publishers having laid off hundreds of journalists. Specialist media is having to adapt or die against dwindling advertisement revenues. Meanwhile,
