Last week I presented my research on online grooming and onlinr child exploitation at the co-hosted Cyber Summit 2024 by @IAFCI and @SarasotaCyber. Thank you to Sarasota Cybersecurity for the invitation and for organizing such an enriching event.
Episode 93 is out now! In this episode we speak with Dr. Eden Kamar (@EdenKamar; @GSU_EBCS) about:
-Parental guardianship and online grooming
-Knowledge of sex and susceptibility to online grooming
-Online predators targeting webcams

"The Relevance of Targets’ Sexual Knowledge in the Progression of Online Sexual Grooming Events: Findings from an Online Field Experiment."

Check out our (@david_maimon ) newest manuscript which was published in Justice Quarterly. We used a honeypot chatbot to assess the effect of sexual knowledge on the progression of the online grooming of minors event.

A podcast discussing @EdenKamar’s work on online grooming would be an absolute must-listen! The integration of criminological insights and methodological innovation truly showcases the relevance of criminology in the digital age. A perfect fit for @TheCrimAcademy. @GSU_EBCS
Two criminologists automated chatbots posing as 13-year-old girls to gather detailed, current data on how predators are targeting children. Here are their disturbing findings (by @EdenKamar and @Dr_Cybercrime of @USouthFlorida) https://t.co/8yZYDwhuhE
@EdenKamar and I deployed #chatbots disguised as 13-year-old girls on chatrooms as bait for online predators. We received several unsolicited links: 41% were associated with @whereby. We later found that predators can use this platform to spy on kids via their webcam.

Congratulations to Evidence-Based Cybersecurity Research Group partner Dr. @EdenKamar! Eden has completed her Ph.D. program and has been awarded her #doctoratedegree in #cybersecurity from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem!
Congratulations Eden! We are so proud of you!
Ebcs partners @EdenKamar — a Ph.D. candidate in #cybersecurity at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and @Dr_Cybercrime, a #cybercrime expert at USF, were recently featured in the New York Post!

Repping @USFCBCS and @USouthFlorida in the news for the 3rd time this month. My colleague (@EdenKamar) and I discovered a new exploit in a popular video conferencing platform, @whereby, that allows online predators to spy on children. Thankful for the @nypost and @ghlionn for covering this important story.
@JackRhysider, our findings would be a perfect fit for @DarknetDiaries 🤔

Last night, our research findings, @Dr_Cybercrime@david_maimon, were published in the NY Post, alerting a new vector attack where new platforms allow online predators to take over minors' webcams without their ability to resist. Check it out: https://t.co/w36JxVKz0S
Last weekend, EBCS students presented their #research and #findings at the @ASCRM41 2022 Annual #Conference! Special thanks to Robert Perkins, Cameron Hoffman, Fangzhou Wang, Eden Kamar, Tessa C., Shelleen Akin, and Manik Kaur. Your hard work has paid off!
Check out our latest #CyberSecurity piece in Justice Quarterly. Using a randomized controlled trial, we find the effectiveness of #informationsecurity messages in reducing online victimization varies based on participants' cognitive capacity. @USFSM
