Our 6th Community Academy class was awesome! We got to try virtual reality training and run some actual scenarios. (Thank you Fife PD for sharing your new system!) We learned how to breach a door and got hands on with all the gear deputies wear every day - about 30 pounds!
Edgewood's municipal code 10.20 is effective today, June 3. This code relates to motorized scooters and E-Bikes. Please take a moment to read through these rules, as violation can lead to the device being impounded and/or a $250 fine.

Honoring Our Fallen Heroes
Β
Today, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office honors the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice and courage to protecting our freedoms will never be forgotten. We remember and honor our fallen heroes today.
Last night was the 5th class in our 2026 Community Academy. We covered what to do on traffic stops, what happens with DUIβs, and toured the Edgewood precinct. We even tried out the beer goggles! If you missed Community Academy this year, be sure to sign up for 2027!
While Sgt. Mike was out keeping Edgewood safe, he stopped to say "hi" to little Chester and his mom, Snowball. The encounter was very mooooving. π

On week 4 of Community Academy, we had presentations from SWAT and K-9. We heard from the Pierce County Sheriff's SWAT Commander and got to crawl around in the Bearcat. We also met K-9 Officer Coda and watched him take down a bad guy. (Sorry again Dep. Catey.)
Last week, our Edgewood PD participated in the Special Olympics LE Torch Run. Officers and athletes ran side by side to raise support for training and athletic competitions for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Thank you to everyone who cheered us on!
On May 14th, we will join Sumner PD and other LE agencies from East Pierce County as the torch is carried from the Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse in Sumner, at 3:30pm, down Main St to Sumner High School. Please consider donating to the Special Olympics at https://t.co/FCF2CBZnpo

Week #2 of Community Academy - Detectives and Forensics set up a crime scene for us, complete with a "body," blood spatter samples and decomposition insects. We got hands-on with fingerprinting, testing for blood, and looking for hidden evidence. AMAZING class!
So...that happened.
Our Shred Event was rolling right along when the shredding truck CAUGHT FIRE. Thankfully, no one was hurt. We were disappointed to have to close early, but we appreciate your understanding. To find another event go to https://t.co/9RLuWupM7N
Week #1 of our 2026 Community Academy!
We learned about contract policing in Edgewood, what use of force means and the restrictions on when/how itβs used, and watched Chief Youngman demonstrate defensive tactics scenarios. And we got to shoot Tasers!

SHRED EVENT HAPPENING TOMORROW!
You don't have to be an Edgewood resident to shred and recycle with us. Come on by and take advantage of this awesome event!
Sgt. Mike was out in Edgewood enforcing the law when he met Edgar, a 9-month-old, 500 pound "baby" bull. And while they were saying "hi," Sadie decided she wanted her picture taken too!
