Deep inner suffering inevitably arises when the human person is reduced to performance, consumption, or a statistical datum. Many young people today live under the yoke of expectations to perform, immersed in an exasperated competitiveness that generates anxiety, fear of not measuring up, and disorientation.
The internet used to be full of websites; there were millions of them and you could browse for hours and come away smarter rather than dumber. Now there are four sites and they've made half the population illiterate. We've destroyed a wonderful thing, and it has destroyed us.
Not all Muslims are dangerous. But those who want to apply certain commands in the Quran and Hadith literally and seriously can become dangerous. For example, Muhammad sent followers to assassinate Ka‘b ibn al-Ashraf because he criticized him through poetry. Any muslim today who wants to imitate such actions would clearly be dangerous.
Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others.
