@SimonCalder Loath though I am to say “I told you so”, shutting down all the professional holiday let operators to create a vast unregulated black market was always going to end badly.

@BBCandrewpicken The data in your article is incorrect. There are nowhere near 9000 “airbnbs” in Edinburgh. (BBC brand advertising?) If there was, there wouldn’t be the extremely prices currently seen. The reality is around 2000, under 1% of all housing stock and not enough to meet demand.
@PLACEEdinburgh The ASSC does not advocate to remove homes. 0.6% of property in Edinburgh is available for short term self catering use - the ASSC advocates to meet this demand. Lack of homes and rents are due to a lack of home building. When more homes are delivered, prices/ rents decrease.
Strange - No rent controls or short term let controls required?
“But a development boom and new policies encouraging *housing density* have sent vacancy rates soaring.”
Scotland take notice. @PaulMcLennan7@SaveSCScotland
@Gfunk_710@cllr_jenkinson Very different problem. Unintentional accidents as described can also occur, they are probably something we can do without with the caveat we have good public displays.
@cllr_jenkinson Makes sense. Having lived in Sydney for some time I don’t recall anyone having a need to buy fireworks or making an issue of not being able to buy them. Yet fantastic public displays all year round.

@theSpurtle@NickSherrard@oldtownrez@thecockburn Short term lets being a reason for lack of housing has been debunked, when only 0.8% of dwellings are STLs. What is severely impacting housing is nimbyism and misguided policies discouraging investment. An anti tourism agenda is an extension of this.

@theSpurtle@NickSherrard@oldtownrez@thecockburn As David has pointed out, claims of ‘hollowed out communities’ are false. The Old Town will always be a tourist draw, there happens to be a giant castle there. Claims by them and others that they are looking for ‘balance’ appear to be disingenuous when data not used or collected
BREAKING: Australian voters turn on @Greens in the Queensland election.

Total rubbish to infer zero hour contracts etc, they are self employed local to Edinburgh females who value the flexible working hours during school hours. They earn around £25-£30 an hour.
